College News Briefs

All Pearl River College
telephone numbers have changed
POPLARVILLE - All Pearl River Community College telephone numbers have
changed.
The Poplarville campus 795 prefix has changed to 403 and the Hattiesburg
Forrest
County Center's main
number has changed from 544-7722 to 544-5555.
Steve Howard, director of Data Processing and Computer Services, said
there are only 10 numbers
with the 795 Poplarville prefix left for expansion.
"Any numbers that we request from BellSouth after those ten numbers will
start with the
403 prefix," said Howard.
"PRCC would then have numbers on campus starting with both 795
and 403."
Howard said by mixing the college prefixes all on-campus numbers would
also have to
be switched from a four
to five digit extension.
All Pearl River residence hall numbers were changed effective January 1.,
but, all office
numbers dialed from off
campus will ring by dialing both 795 and 403 until July 1.
Pearl River's main Poplarville number has changed
from 795-6801 to 403-1000
but a "dual ring in" will be used until Dec. 31..
"A change of this nature is very significant," said Howard, "however,
this action will
accommodate the college's
future growth."
BellSouth has set aside 795, 403 and 463 prefixes for Poplarville. Howard
said he expects
BellSouth to reassign the
college's 795 numbers to the city and northern Pearl River County after
one year.
The PRCC Hattiesburg campus numbers switched Feb. 1, however both new and
old
numbers will ring through
June 30. Forrest County individual offices will keep their same 544
prefix, however, all last
four digits will change.
