Pearl River Sweeps Faulkner State
Lady Wildcats 79-53 winners; Wildcats trim Sun Chiefs 88-83

     POPLARVILLE   Pearl River Community College opened the new Millennium with a
men's and women's basketball sweep over Faulkner State here Saturday in M.R. White Coliseum.
     The Lady Wildcats improved to 3-9 with their 79-52 pounding of FSCC, while the
Wildcats improved to 7-5 via a 88-83 nail-biter. Faulkner State's women dropped to 2-12, while
its me fell to 9-3.
     The PRCC women led 33-20 at the half and took the second stanza 46-32 to take the win.
     Nichole Hearns led the Lady Wildcats with 16 points (1 trey), while Laura Walters added
14, LaKita Robertson 14, Quinisea Hatten 8, Daven Jenkins 7, Lori DeSilvey 5, Mindy Ladner 4,
Kizzie Mark 4, Sarah Nabours 3, and Shana Caldwell 2.
     FSCC's Stacy Welty led all scorers with 27 points, including 5 three-pointers, while Fran
Rayford added 8, Dawn Smith 6, Betsy Stringer 2, LaShand Dillon 2, Arneta Dale 1, April
Chappel 1, Pasha Ellis 1, Nicole Pullum 1, and Ko Rudolph 1.
     From the foul line, Pearl River was 16 of 20 (80 percent), while Faulkner was 12 of 24 (50
percent).
     In men's action, Pearl River led 48-35 at intermission, but Faulkner's 48-45 edge in
second-half play wasn't quite enough for victory.
     Neal Broome paced PRCC with a game-high 27 points (1 trey), while Marcus Millhouse
added 17, Lamayn Wilson 15 (1 trey), Artrise (Freeze) Stampley 12, Taboris Lindsey 10, Nick
Shattles 4, Jason Broom 2, and Doug Green 2.
     Carlen Miller led Faulkner with 19 points (2 treys), while Adam Reed scored 12 of his 14
points from three-point range. Damien Payne scored 8 (2 treys), DeAndre Cowan 8, Anthony
Hayes 8, Tory Peters 8, Gathan White 5, Michael Carson 5 (1 trey), Wilder Edmund 3, and Kenny
Jemison 3 (1 trey).
     From the foul line, PRCC was 31 of 36 (86 percent), while FSCC was 19 of 27 (70
percent).
     Pearl River resumes South Division play Tuesday when arch-rival Mississippi Gulf Coast
visits for 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) contests, then travels to Southwest in Summit on
Thursday for games at the same times. Both PRCC squads are 1-2 in division play.
