Lady Wildcats sweep Lady Wolves
Pearl River defeats Copiah-Lincoln 8-6, 14-5 in South Division doubleheader

     POPLARVILLE   Pearl River Community College swept Copiah-Lincoln in South
Division women's softball action here Thursday.
     The Lady Wildcats avenged March 23's sweep by the Lady Wolves in Wesson, sweeping
their rivals 8-6 and 14-5 and deadlocking their overall and division marks at 14-14 and 5-5. Co-
Lin dropped to 9-8 and 6-4.
     In the first game, the Lady Wolves went up 1-0 in the top of the second, but Pearl River
answered with six in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. A Lady Wildcat solo run in
the fourth made things 7-1, but Co-Lin added five in the top of the fifth to tighten the gap at 7-6.
PRCC added one run in the bottom of the stanza to ice the win.
     Pinky Willis, who picked up the win on the mound, paced PRCC's 13-hit attack with three
singles, while Meagan Cox tripled and singles, Alleen Seale and Charity Knight had two singles
each, while Stephanie Powell, Traci McMichael, Melanie Cox, and Lynde Cuevas all singled.
     Co-Lin managed 11 hits, led by Sandy Reynolds' triple and single. Cristi Wallace and Kit
Brashier had two singles each, while Tammy Case, Stephanie Brown, Tamika Ratcliff, Jamie
Errington, and Rusti Smith all singled.
     In the second game, PRCC led 4-1 after one-and-a-half, then Kristie Williams cracked a
two-RBI double in the bottom of the second to make things 6-1. Co-Lin answered with three in
the third. PRCC's Meagan Cox and Melanie Cox singled in the bottom of the stanza, then Kristen
Parker reached via an error, pushing the Cox twins home. PRCC 8, CLCC 1
     The fourth was scoreless, but Melanie Cox managed a two-RBI triple and Williams a
three-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth to make things 13-3. Williams also scored to end the
Lady Wildcats' scoring. Co-Lin scored one run in the top of the sixth.
     Williams paced PRCC's 22-hit show with a triple, double, and single; while Powell and
Leslie Wells had three singles each. Lynde Cuevas, Melanie Cox, and McMichael had a triple and
a single a piece, while Amanda Adams and Seale had two singles each. Willis, who was the
winning pitcher, Knight, and Meagan Cox all singled.
     Co-Lin finished with 12 hits, led by Wallace, Brown, and Melanie Fairchild who had two
singles each. Reynolds, Case, Amanda Bass, and Melanie Ainsworth all singled.
     PRCC participates in the Northeast Tournament Friday and Saturday in New Albany, then
travels to East Mississippi in Scooba Tuesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Next Thursday,
Mississippi Gulf Coast visits for a 3 p.m. South Division doubleheader.
