POPLARVILLE   Pearl River's Wildcats swept the Hibbing Cardinals in a non-division

PRCC won both games via the 10-run rule to improve to 11-5-1 overall. The Wildcats
took the first game 12-2, then followed with an 11-0 shutout in the second. Hibbing, a community
college out of Hibbing, Minn., dropped to 0-2 in their season openers.
In the first game, Pearl River broke a 1-1 deadlock in the bottom of the second with a
three-run effort, then added two in the third, four in the fourth, and two in the fifth to ice the win.
Trent Lee (1-0) was the winning pitcher in going the distance. The former Pearl River
Central standout struck out four and walked four, while Cardinal starter J.J. Puzel (0-1) was the
loser in his three innings on the mound. Ryan Endicott and Al Ryan saw relief duty in the fourth
and fifth innings, respectively.
PRCC finished with 11 hits, paced by Brent Robertson's two doubles and a single (three
RBIs), while Ryan Landry singled and doubled and Derek Swan singled and doubled. Kyle Wilks
had a two-run homer in the second inning.
Hibbing had no multiple hitters and both teams committed one error each.
In the second game, Pearl River led 3-0 after one, then KO'ed the Cards in the third with
an eight-run effort.
Matt Williams (1-1) was the winning pitcher, striking out nine and walking none, while
Ben Erickson (0-1) picked up the loss. John Simberg relieved Erickson in the third.
Pearl River had 11 hits, paced by Wilks' homer and single, while Brad Wheat had two
