from the Office of Public Relations
PEARL
RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Wednesday, April 29, 2002
Co-Lin sweeps Pearl River
in regular season finale 4-2, 4-1
PRCC softball team drops
to 16-16 overall, 16-8 in division play;
Lady 'Cats enter MACJC
State Tournament Friday in Booneville
WESSON Pearl River Community College's Lady Wildcats were swept
by rival
Copiah-Lincoln 4-2 and 4-1
in MACJC women's South Division doubleheader softball
action here Saturday to
wrap up the 2002 regular season.
PRCC dropped to 16-16 overall and 16-8 in division play, good enough for
a No. 2
finish in the league. The
Lady Wildcats, 8-3 and 8-0 winners over Co-Lin in April 2's twin bill in
Poplarville, enter the MACJC-Region XXIII Tournament as the South's No.
2 seed at North champ Northeast in Booneville Friday and Saturday. Mississippi
Gulf Coast is the South's No. 1 seed, while Hinds is third and East Central
fourth.
Northeast is the North's top seed, followed by East Mississippi, Itawamba,
and
Mississippi Delta.
In the first game, PRCC finished with five hits, led by Felycia Andrews
of Oak
Grove with a double and
a single, while Mindy Ladner of Hancock County managed a
double. Alicia Horne of
Hattiesburg High and Georgelynn Bennett of Pearl River
Central singled.
Co-Lin finished with four hits and played error free, while PRCC committed
three
miscues.
Christy Wilson of Lafayette, La., was the losing pitcher.
In the nightcap, the Lady Wildcats had only three hits. Candice Hyatt of
Hancock
County tripled and singled,
while Brandi Tynes of Columbia High singled. The Lady
Wolves finished with eight
hits.
PRCC committed two errors, while CLCC played error free.
Carly Buckley of Zachary, La., was the losing pitcher.
The top four finishers from the MACJC's North and South divisions earn
berths
in the annual state-regional
tournament. District tournament action is set for May 10-11 (location to
be announced), while the NJCAA National Tournament is set for May 16-19
in Phoenix, Ariz.
