Lady 'Cats eye State Tournament
face Itawamba Tuesday at 8 p.m.

     POPLARVILLE   Pearl River Community College's Lady Wildcats enter this
week's 2002 MACJC State Tournament Tuesday, taking on host Itawamba in Fulton in
an 8 p.m. battle.
     The tournament got underway Monday with men's first-round action, followed by
women's first-round action all day Tuesday. Semi-finals are set for Wednesday, while the women's and men's championship games are set for Thursday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. The top four finishers in the North and South division's earned berths to the annual event.
     The Lady Wildcats wrapped up their regular season at 14-7 overall and 8-4 in
South Division play, are the South's No. 3 seed, behind top-seeded Copiah-Lincoln (10-2) and No. 2 Southwest (9-3). East Central (7-5) is the South's No. 4 women's seed.
Southwest (10-2) is the South men's top seed, followed by Mississippi Gulf Coast (8-4), Jones (7-5), and Hinds (5-7).
     Here is a schedule of the four-day tournament:
MONDAY (All Men's Games): Mississippi Gulf Coast (South No. 2) vs. Northwest (North No. 3) 2 p.m., Holmes (North No. 2) vs. Jones (South No. 3) 4 p.m., Southwest (South No. 1) vs. Northeast (North No. 4) 6 p.m., Itawamba (North No. 1) vs. Hinds (South No. 4) 8 p.m.
TUESDAY (All Women's Games): East Central (South No. 4) vs. Northeast (North No. 1) 2 p.m., Southwest (South No. 2) vs. Northwest (North No. 3) 4 p.m., Copiah-Lincoln
(South No. 1) vs. Holmes (North No. 4) 6 p.m., Itawamba (North No. 2) vs. Pearl River
(South No. 3) 8 p.m.
WEDNESDAY: Northeast-East Central women's winner vs. Southwest-Northwest winner 2 p.m., Southwest-Northeast men's winner vs. Holmes-Jones winner 4 p.m., Co-Lin-Holmes women's winner vs. Itawamba-Pearl River winner 6 p.m., Itawamba-Hinds men's winner vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast-Northwest winner 8 p.m.
THURSDAY: Women's championship 6 p.m., men's championship 8 p.m.
     The 2002 Region XXIII Tournament follows the next week (March 4-7) at
Mississippi College in Clinton.
