PRCC swept by East Central
Lady 'Cats fall 72-56;
'Cats succumb in second half in 94-80 loss
DECATUR Pearl River Community College was swept by East Central
in
women's and men's MACJC
South Division basketball action here Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats fell 72-56 to drop to 10-9 overall and 4-4 in league
play, while
the Wildcats blew a halftime
lead in a 94-80 setback to drop 12-6 and 5-3. The Lady
Warriors, leaders in the
division, improved to 17-2 and 7-1, while the Warriors
improved to 7-11 and 2-6.
The Pearl River women handed East Central its only division loss of the
year in a
54-52 squeaker Dec. 4 in
Poplarville, while the Wildcats blasted the Warriors 82-68
the same night.
In women's action Thursday, East Central led 33-23 at the intermission,
then
outscored the Lady Wildcats
39-33 in the second half to take the 16-point win and
pad its division lead.
Carmen Labat of Bay High paced The River with 13 points, while Ashley Smith
of
Beaumont, Tex., added 8,
Kira Tillman and Cicely Tatum, both of Poplarville High,
and Sonya Henderson of Wayne
County, 6 a piece; Nikki Smith of Poplarville High 5, Monique Dale of South
Jones and Kim Winfrey of Oak Grove (8 rebounds), 4 each;
and Yolanda Hartfield of
Hattiesburg High 3.
Twelve different Lady Warriors scored in the contest, led by Rita Birden's

points; while Monique Overstreet
added 8, Kim Cox and India Backstrom, 7 each;
Kimyatta Viverette and Kotreece
Bender, 6 each; Ebone'e Leverette and Britney Burks, 4 each; Roxana Rogers
3, and Miranda Rosar 2.
In men's action, Pearl River held on to a comfortable 38-31 lead at the
half, but
the Warriors bounced back
to blow out the Wildcats 63-42 in the second half to take their second
division win of the year.
Freshman Jacoby Rawls of Sumrall paced PRCC with a career-high 16 points,
while freshman Gabe Willis
of St. Stanislaus added 14, Larry Brackins of
Dothan, Ala., 13 (7 boards);
Kitt Jones of Forrest County AHS and Ray Selvage of Baton Rouge, 6 each;
Alvin Smith of Forrest County AHS 5, Jason Simmons and Carlos Cole, both
of Hattiesburg High; Ethan Smith of Poplarville High, and Jonathan Williams
of Stone County, 4 a piece; and Jeremy Goff of Picayune High and Laron
Magee of Hattiesburg High, 2 each.
Jamaal Martin led East Central with a game-high 34 points, while Al Willis
added
15, Lorenzo White 11, Ryan
Hudson 6, Stephen Dyess 5, Neil Tadlock and Desmond
Jones, 4 each; and Gerrick
Nichols 2.
It's more South Division action Monday for PRCC when Southwest visits for
6 p.m.
(women's) and 8 p.m. (men's)
contests, then division rival Mississippi Gulf Coast
plays host Thursday in Perkinston
at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
