Disc Golf event draws more than 70 players

    POPLARVILLE ­ The third annual Pearl River Community College Windy Hills Open Disc Golf Tournament held recently on the PRCC campus pulled more than 70 competitors from six states.
    The tournament consisted of two rounds of 20 holes with players in the open division, masters, advanced, amateur men and women’s division, and novice.
    The PRCC Windy Hills Golf Tournament is part of the Southern National Tournament series, and each player who participates in the tournament  becomes eligible for the end-year championships.
    The PRCC Wildcat Trace Disc Golf course consists of 20 holes and is open to the public from sunrise to sunset. The school does not charge a green fee. Discs can be purchased at Logan’s Quick stop on U.S. 11, across from the PRCC campus.
    In addition to the two annual tournaments, PRCC also hosts clinics to introduce new players to the sport. The next clinic will be at 10 a.m. on April 22. The cost for 45 minutes of instruction and a disc is $10. Following instruction, all participants will begin their first round of play.
    Winners in the recent tournament included: (Open division) 1. Tony Bass of Hattiesburg, 2. Kenny Collums of  Tupelo, 3. Calvin Vo of Mobile, Ala.; (Masters division) 1. Chris Lasonde of Mobile, Ala., 2. Bruce Bennett of Mobile, Ala.
    Other local results: Chase Kelly of Prentiss, 10th Amateur; Brandon Townsend of Lumberton, 4th Amateur; John Odom of Poplarville, 5th Amateur; David Buckley of Bay St. Louis, 6th Amateur; Justin Main of Waveland, 1st Advanced Division.
