PRCC presents annual
awards to top students
POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College honored its best students during
its annual Awards Day Program on April 19.
Brock Baxter White of Columbia and math instructor Judy Roane were honored
for their selection as PRCC’s representatives for the annual Higher Education
Appreciation Day-Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) awards earlier
in the year.
Also recognized Thursday were Michelle Guzman and Daniel Wise, both of
Picayune, for their selection to the Phi Theta Kappa 2007 All-Mississippi
Academic Team. Guzman was named to the first team and Wise to the second.
Guzman also received the Dr. William A. Lewis Presidential Scholarship
to the University of Southern Mississippi and the Phi Theta Kappa Hallmark
Award for Scholarship.
White and Emma K. Harris of Kiln received the Citizenship Award for academic
students while Eric Harper of Bassfield and Conchetta Thomas of Hattiesburg
were honored with the Citizenship Awards in career technical programs.
Rebecca Hoehne of Poplarville received the Student Government Association
Award. She also received the Phi Theta Kappa Hallmark Award for Service
and was named to Who’s Who in American Community Colleges.
Students honored by the Department of Business and Commerce Technology
were Elizabeth Kupfer of Poplarville, accounting technology; Timothy Bounds
of Sumrall, business marketing management technology; Reid Lee of Carriere,
computer networking technology; and Erica Eden of Carriere, medical billing
and coding technology. Kupfer also was named Outstanding Member by Phi
Beta Lambda, and Lee and Eden were named to Who’s Who in American Community
Colleges.
Honored by the Department of Fine Arts and Communication were Ashley Anderson
of Carriere, drawing; Tiffany Kelley of Bay St. Louis, painting; Cody Jarrell
of Picayune, theater; Glory Eturralde of Carriere, design; Chad Hunt of
Lumberton, music; Kayla Stevens of Tylertown, communication; Keith Brown
and Elizabeth Buckles, both of Lumberton, special studio. Hunt also was
named to Who’s Who in American Community Colleges.
Students singled out by the Department of Health, Physical Education and
Recreation for Outstanding Athlete Awards were Donte Spires of Tampa, Fla.,football;
Heath Stevens of Picayune, baseball; Jessica Dubisson of Perkinston, softball;
Wesly Jones of Beatrice, Ala., and Sherrion Thomas of Jackson, basketball;
Andrew Smith-Parker of Slidell, La., and Nikki Shows of Hattiesburg, soccer;
George Kandelaki of Oak Grove and Whitney Miller of Poplarville, tennis.
Zach Crawford and Samanta Gracia, both of Hattiesburg, were named the male
and female Scholar Athlete of 2007. Crawford also was named to Who’s Who
Among American Community Colleges.
Receiving honors from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
were Talley Martin of Carriere, English; April Carter of Bay St. Louis,
Magic River editor; Carter, Emanuel Brooks of Poplarville, Jennifer Griffin
and Elise Thornton, creative writing; Holly Pearman of Carriere, Spanish;
Jennifer Theriot of Picayune, political science; Allison Seal of Picayune,
history; Johnnylyn Sauls of Columbia, psychology; and Katy Konrick of Pearlington,
sociology. Martin also was named to Who’s Who Among American Community
Colleges.
Awards in the Department of Industrial Technology went to Daniel DiFatta
of Purvis, automation and controls technology; Darrell Lee of Bay St. Louis,
drafting and design technology; Amanda Tillman of Biloxi, electronics technology;
and Darla Bach of Petal, web development technology.
The Department of Nursing Education presented Outstanding Nursing Student
awards to Delilah J. Culpepper of Poplarville, practical nursing; Jefferson
R. Buntin of Carriere, Nursing I; Theresa Pittman of Sumrall, Nursing II;
Marion Labat of Bay St. Louis, Nursing III and IV: and Natalie Briethaupt
of Hattiesburg, nursing V and VI. Culpepper also was named to Who’s Who
Among American Community Colleges.
Awards in the Department of Occupational Training went to Patrick Berger
of Poplarville, automotive mechanics technology; Don Holston of Baxterville,
aviation technology; Joshua Bolden of Hattiesburg, barbering; Brent Scelson
of Bay St. Louis, construction management technology; Brie Black of Bay
St. Louis, cosmetology; Carla Robertson of Sumrall, early childhood development
technology; Chris Drouilhet of Picayune, electrical technology; Britt Diamond
of Lumberton, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology; Matthew
L. Rungeling of Purvis, machine shop technology; Derell Irvin of Petal,
brick, block and stonemasonry; and Calvin Brown of Columbia, welding. Scelson
and Diamond were named to Who’s Who Among American Community Colleges.
Students honored by the Department of Science, Mathematics and Business
were Paula Peyronnin of Slidell, biology; Corey Daigle of Carriere, mathematics;
Amy Anderson of Poplarville, accounting; Erin Bowman of Picayune, business;
and Brock White of Columbia, physics. Daigle and White also were named
to Who’s Who Among American Community Colleges.
Awards also were presented by several clubs and organizations. They include:

the Student Nurse Association Leadership Award.

Cherie Peterson received the
Delta Epsilon Chi Outstanding Club Member Award.

Matt Dyar of Purvis was named
the Outstanding Club Member for Skills USA.

The Phi Theta Kappa Hallmark
Award for Leadership went to Jamie Fairley of Wiggins and the award for
Fellowship to Whitney Thomas of Bay St. Louis. Fairley also was named to
Who’s Who Among American Community Colleges.

Amanda Howard of Poplarville
was named the Outstanding Wildcat Staff Member for her work on the year
disk. Also honored for work on the year disk were Brett Barnes of Carriere,
Matthew Burt of Hattiesburg, Jason Mikell of Columbia, Brianna Stark of
Lumberton, Stacey Whitlow of Metaire, La., Kevin Miller of Angie, La.,
Jesse Beck of Bay St. Louis, Shawn Cagle of Picayune, Damario Holloway
of Prentiss and Michael Mitchell of Kokomo. Barnes and Mikell also were
named to Who’s Who Among American Community Colleges.
