PRCC splits with East
Central
Lady Wildcats fall 79-66;
Wildcat bop Warriors 77-67
DECATUR — Pearl River split with East Central in women’s and men’s MACJC
South Division basketball action here Monday with the Lady Wildcats falling
79-66, while the Wildcats defeated the Warriors 77-67.
PRCC’s women fell to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in division play, while its men
are now 11-7 and 5-2. ECCC’s women improved to 12-5 and 4-3, while
its men fell to 5-12 and 1-5.
In women’s action, the Lady Warriors led 43-21 at the intermission, but
PRCC bounced back to outscore ECCC 45-36 in the second half only to come
up 14 points shy of victory.
Shiney Paul of Baton Rouge, La., paced Pearl River with 25 points, while
bucketing five three pointer and grabbing six rebounds. Sherrion Thomas
of Jackson scored 10, Calla Daggons of Mereaux, La., nine, Shantrelle Blakely
of Harrison Central six, Cristen Carter of West Marion and Nicole Lowe
of Jackson, four each; Amanda Barnes of Collins and Ziena Husband of Petal,
three each; and Mallory Archer of Natchez one.
East Central’s Valerie Harper scored a game-high 27 points, while Andrea
Dubose added 20, Chotsani Henderson and Alisa Matlock, eight each; Tanesha
Brown seven, Jessica Anderson four, Tawaytha Evans three, and Carlena Clemmons
and Beverly Hutchinson, one each.
PRCC was five of 10 (50 percent) at the foul line, while ECCC was 12 of
19 (63.2 percent).
In men’s action, Pearl River had a commanding 43-21 lead at the half, while
East Central outscored the Wildcats 45-36 in the second half.
Wesley Jones of Beatrice, Ala., led PRCC with a 26 points and 17 rebounds
— both game-high totals — while Brandon Payne of Mobile, Ala., added 18,
dished off eight assists, and hauled in six boards. Chazz Hawkins of Picayune
High scored 14, Jamarcus Jackson of Hattiesburg High 12, Darrionne Jones
of Picayune High and LeBaron Weathers of Oak Grove, two each; and Jeremy
Stewart of Moss Point one.
PRCC was 20 of 30 (66.6 percent) at the foul line, while ECCC was 12 of
19 (62.2 percent).
It’s more division action for Pearl River Thursday when it travels to Copiah-Lincoln
in Wesson for 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) tip offs before returning
home to Shivers Gymnasium to take on league rival Mississippi Gulf Coast
Monday. Those tip off times are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
