PRCC to host suicide prevention workshop

     HATTIESBURG - Pearl River Community College will host a suicide prevention and intervention workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 at the Lowery A. Woodall Advanced Technology Center in Hattiesburg.
     The workshop will teach the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) program developed by Living Works Education Inc.
     Dr. Bob Escudero, director of Student Support Services at PRCC, and four other instructors who have been certified as ASIST trainers will conduct the workshop.
     The training is free through federal grant funding received by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. In addition to the state department and PRCC, sponsoring agencies are Pinebelt Mental Health Resources, Gulf Coast Mental Health Center and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
     The workshop is open to the public but space is limited to 30 participants. To register, telephone Lois Wilson, Mississippi Department of Mental Health, at 601 359-1288.
