New student orientation set July 15-17 at PRCC

POPLARVILLE - Orientation and early registration for new students planning to attend classes on the Poplarville campus of Pearl River Community College for the 2008 fall semester is set for July 15-17 on the PRCC campus.

By participating in the orientation and early registration sessions, new students can receive their class schedules for the coming fall term, learn about campus life and opportunities, meet other students and talk with administrators, faculty and staff, as well as advisors in their area of study.

Students must have an admission application, ACT scores (academic and technical students), high school transcript, and financial aid forms (if applicable) on file with the college in order to attend the session. If you have not sent your test scores and/or transcript (s), you will need to bring a copy to Orientation.

The Orientation sessions for July 15 (Tuesday) are already closed, but openings remain for the July 16-17 (Wednesday-Thursday) sessions.

All students who pre-register for orientation will receive a confirmation post card in early July with session date and time.

Doors open at the Nursing and Wellness Center at 8:30 a.m. for the 9 a.m. session and 12:30 p.m. for the 1 p.m. session. A general assembly will be held, followed by registration and orientation.

Cost is $25 per student, which will include an information packet, student calendar and a T-shirt. Tuition and other college fees may be paid during orientation or they can be paid in the fall. A parent session will be available during most Orientation sessions. The cost is $5.

"Our primary focus is to put students first," said Dr. Barbara Gandy, PRCC’s Director of Recruitment and Orientation. "The orientation process is designed to open our doors and hopefully make students feel comfortable as they begin their college careers."

A separate orientation session has also been scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, at the Forrest County Center in Hattiesburg. The center is located at 5448 Highway 49 South. Check in for students without an Orientation reservation will begin at noon.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, the Hancock Center in Waveland will also host an Orientation session for any first-time PRCC students, with check-in beginning at 10 a.m.
