Adam Porter was gem of PRCC golf in 2008
Sophomore from Columbia Academy finishes tied for seventh among MACJC-Region 23 golfers

POPLARVILLE — Adam Porter was the gem of the Pearl River Community College golf team in 2008, say first-year Wildcat head coach Trevor Lydic.
Porter, a sophomore out of Columbia Academy, finished tied for seventh with a two-day score of 149 in the recent MACJC-Region 23 Tournament played April 28-29 at Forest County Club and was just one stroke shy of qualifying for the NJCAA nationals.
Porter shot rounds of 75-74 in the event. As a team, PRCC finished seventh in the tournament with a score of 631 (322-309).
Mississippi Gulf Coast (587) won the event, followed by Meridian (589), Northwest Mississippi (615), Itawamba (619), Hinds (625), Holmes (627), PRCC, East Central (637), Northeast Mississippi (637), Copiah-Lincoln (645), East Mississippi (656), and Jones County (676).
“Adam is one of the best players in the entire state,” Lydic said. “He possesses great concentration skills and has the ability to fight through adversity. There were several instances when he had to battle the elements, but he came through for us.
“Adam has the potential to be a national caliber performer.”
In PRCC’s first tournament of the season at Eagle Ridge Golf Club at Hinds CC in Raymond, Porter was the tournament medalist with rounds of 75 and 71 to finish with a 146, while the next week he earned All-Tournament honors at an East Central-hosted event also at Forest CC. He had rounds of 71 and 78 for a 149.
That tournament was a history-maker for Pearl River as it was the first time every member of the Wildcat squad shot under 80 in one round. Dillon Barber of Columbia Academy shot a 77, followed by Porter and Colby Strickland of Petal with 78s. Dave Porter, Adam’s twin brother, shot a 79.
“All of our guys this year were sophomores, so we’ll be starting from scratch next season,” Lydic added. “We had some great rounds this past season. The final day of the state-regional tournament, we finished with a 309 which was our best round of the year.”
The Porter brothers will be transferring to Ole Miss in the fall.
