PRCC graduates do well on national nurses’ exam
POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College nursing students who graduated in May again scored above the national
average on their national licensing exam.
PRCC’s 47 graduates scored a 94 percent passing rate on the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses.
"That’s better than most of them in the state," said Peggy Dease, M.S., R.N., director of PRCC’s nursing education program.
"Overall for the year, we have 90 percent."
Graduates of a recognized nursing program usually take the national exam as the last step in the nurse licensure process. PRCC
graduates take the test following completion of the program in December and in May.
PRCC’s associate degree nursing program is a two_year course of study that prepares students to work in hospitals, doctors’
offices, clinics, nursing homes and community settings.
"We continue to be pleased with the success of our graduates in passing their licensing examination," said Dr. John Grant, vice
president for instruction. "This suggests that our graduates will be good nurses."
The national passing rate for the 2008-09 academic year is 88 percent while the rate in Mississippi is 89 percent, Dease said.
PRCC accepts 70 students into the associate degree nursing program each semester. For information on the program, telephone
