River splits with Delta
Lady ’Cats 79-70 losers; Wildcats win 64-46
MOORHEAD — Pearl River Community College split with MACJC non-division rival Mississippi Delta here Monday
with the Lady Wildcats falling 79-70 and the Wildcats pulling off a convincing 64-46 victory.
PRCC’s women dropped to 3-2 overall, while its men improved to 3-2. The host Lady Trojans evened their overall
mark to 2-2, while the Trojans are now 1-3.
In the women’s game, MDCC led 36-34 at the intermission then outscored Pearl River 43-36 in the second half to take
the nine-point victory.
Brittany Weathers of Oak Grove paced the Lady Wildcats with 19 points and 12 rebounds — both season-high totals— while Kenyatta Epps of Yazoo City added a career-high 17 (five rebounds), Jen Ervin of Atlanta, Ga., 11 (five rebounds),
Nicole Holder of Lumberton High nine (six rebounds), Shandell Peters of East Marion six, Charlene Green of North Pike and
Sam Fairley of Hattiesburg High, three each; and Courtney Lacoste of Hancock County two.
For Delta, Ashley Love led the way with 18 points, while Britney Lakes scored 16, Brizannai Washington 11, Jerrica
Crawford 10, Britney Craford and Schantedra Dorsey, six each; Alesha Banks and Kimberly Banks, five each; and Autumn
Jones one.
From the field, PRCC hit a meager 33.9 percent (21 of 82) to MDCC’s 43.9 percent (29 of 66); while the Lady
Wildcats were 21 of 34 (61.8 percent) at the foul line to the Lady Trojans’ 20-of-36 (55.5 percent) effort.
In men’s action, the Wildcats held on to a four-point lead (30-26) at the half, then pounded the Trojans with a 34-20
margin in the second half to take the lopsided 18-point win.
Kenderick Washington of Hinds AHS led The River with 18 points and 10 boards — both season-high totals — while
Phillip Crawford of Mobile, Ala., added 11 (five rebounds), Rod Little of Moss Point 10, Emil Jones of North Forrest, Denzel
McDaniel of Mobile, Ala., and Josh Moore of Jackson (Forest Hill), seven a piece; and Tre Brown of Ocean Springs and Zach
Vickers of Laurel Hill, Fla., two each.
Falando Jones paced Delta with 12 points, while Jestonia Kimber added nine, Christian Downey six, Nicholas Coppage
five, Wiley Adams four, DeMario Calvin, Lonnie Cottrell, Timothy Guest, and Curtis Stuckey, two a piece; and Brandon
Mitchell and Eric Sims, one each.
From the field, PRCC hit 43.3 percent (26 of 60) to MDCC’s dismal 28.8 percent (17 of 59); while the Wildcats were
nine of 19 (47.4 percent) at the foul line to the Trojans’ nine-of-18 (50 percent) effort.
Pearl River returns to the friendly confines of Shivers Gymnasium Thursday to host Holmes for a pair of MACJC
non-division contests at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men), then travels to Wallace-Selma in Selma, Ala., Saturday for 3 p.m.
(women) and 5 p.m. (men) games.
