River sweeps Wallace-Selma
Lady Wildcats 67-59 victors; ’Cats win 84-67

     SELMA, Ala. — Pearl River Community College swept Wallace-Selma CC (Ala.) here Saturday with the Lady Wildcats taking a 67-59 victory and the Wildcats pulling off a convincing 84-67 win.
      Both PRCC squad improved to 5-2 overall with the wins.
      In the women’s game, PRCC led 35-25 at the intermission, but the host Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Wildcats 34-32 in the second half only to come up short of victory.
      Olivia Magee of Columbia High paced Pearl River with 18 points, while Shandell Peters of East Marion added 17 (seven rebounds), Sam Fairley of Hattiesburg High eight (nine rebounds), Jen Ervin of Atlanta, Ga., Brittany Weathers of Oak Grove (seven rebounds), and Shundrea Windham of Laurel High, six a piece, Nicole Holder of Lumberton High five, and Kenyatta Epps of Yazoo City and Courtney Lacoste of Hancock County, two each.
      Shauntay Gooden led the Lady Pats with 17, while Brittany Harris added 12, Nicole Brooks and Jamia Whiting, nine each; Whitney Miles six, and Crystal Turk five.
      From the field, PRCC hit 31.4 percent (22 of 70) to WSCC’s 36.2 percent (21 of 58); while the Lady Wildcats were 21 of 36 (58.3 percent) at the foul line to the Lady Patriots’ 17-of-33 (51.5 percent) effort. Pearl River hit 13.3 percent (two of 15) from three-point range, while Wallace-Selma was zero of 11 attempts.
      In men’s action, the Wildcats led by 11 — 39-28 — at the intermission, then outscored the Patriots 45-39 in the second half to take the 17-point win.
      Phillip Crawford of Mobile, Ala., paced PRCC with a season-high 33 points (seven rebounds), while Rod Little of Moss Point added 17, Emil Jones of North Forrest 10, Kenderek Washington of Hinds AHS six (seven rebounds), Mychael Keeler of Oak Grove, Josh Moore of Jackson (Forest Hill), and Desmond Ratliff of Canton High, four a piece; Denzel McDaniel of Mobile, Ala., and Zach Vickers of Laurel Hill, Fla., two each; and Kegan Houston of Quitman High and LeKendrick Maye of Prentiss High, one each.
      For Wallace-Selma, Charles Knight led the way with 14 points, while Fentress Lockett, LaVaughn Nicholson, and Jerel Peoples added 11 a piece, Travares Williams seven, Willie Cooper and Adam Middleton, four each; Darrell Mayberry and Robert McCall, two each; and Tyree Mosely one.
      From the field, PRCC hit 49.3 percent (35 of 71) to WSCC’s dismal 33.8 percent (22 of 65); while the Wildcats were 13 of 23 (65 percent) at the foul line to the Patriots’ 20-of-37 (54.1 percent) effort. From three-point range, Pearl River was one of six (16.7 percent), while Wallace-Selma was three of 21 (14.3 percent).
