Wildcats blow out Wolfpack
PRCC takes second victory of season over winless Loyola JV

     POPLARVILLE — Pearl River’s Wildcat basketball team bombed Loyola University’s junior varsity Wolfpack squad here Monday in Shivers Gymnasium, taking a lopsided 87-53 victory.
     The win marked PRCC’s second win over the New Orleans-based senior college as the Wildcats were 60-49 winners Dec. 12 in the Big Easy.
     Pearl River improved to 8-4 overall, while Loyola’s JV remains winless at 0-6.
     PRCC held Loyola scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game and built a 17-0 lead before Damir Durmo sank a trey for the Wolfpacks first points at the 13:00 mark.
     The Wildcats built its lead to 30 — 39-9 — off a three pointer by Kegan Houston of Quitman High with 5:10 left in the half; but Loyola outscored Pearl River 14-13 in the final five minutes to cut the hosts lead to 52-23 at the break.
     PRCC outscored the visitors 35-30 in the second half and built its lead to as many as 36 points.
     Dylan Kremer paced the Wolfpack with a game-high 16 points (three treys), while Chris Joseph added 10, Jeff Coote and Emmanuel Hill, seven each; Cameron Gates six, Durmo three, and Aleck Johnson and Marc Luettecke, two each.
     Phillip Crawford of Mobile, Ala., led the Wildcats with 15 points and hauled in a team-high six boards, while Houston scored 13 (three treys, three steals), Kenderek Washington of Hinds AHS 11, Josh Moore of Jackson (Forest Hill) 10, John Walker of Bassfield High seven, LaKendrick Maye of Prentiss High six, Tre Brown of Ocean Springs High (three assists), Rod Little of Moss Point High, Denzel McDaniel of Mobile, Ala. (four assists), and Desmond Ratliff of Canton High (five assists, three steals), four a piece; Cody Ladner of Pearl River Central three, and Emil Jones of North Forrest, El Regious Stubbs, and Zach Vickers of Laurel Hill, Fla., two a piece.
     Loyola was 14 of 44 (31.8 percent) from the field to Pearl River’s 33-of-65 (50.8 percent) effort, while the Wolfpack hit 25 percent (six of 24) from three-point range to the Wildcats’ 60 percent (six of 10) showing. At the foul line, Loyola’s JV squad was 19 of 24 (79.4 percent), while PRCC was 15 of 23 (65.2 percent).
     PRCC’s women and men host Mississippi Delta Thursday, Jan. 7, at 3 p.m. (women) and 5 p.m. (men) before hosting arch-rival Mississippi Gulf Coast Monday, Jan. 11, in a huge MACJC South Division twin bill at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men).
