Pearl River sweeps Holmes in MACJC tennis action
POPLARVILLE — Pearl River’s women’s and men’s tennis teams swept Holmes here Saturday in MACJC action with both squads taking impressive 9-0 victories.
In women’s doubles, Kasey King of Purvis and Janae Norwood of Hattiesburg defeated Holmes's Kayla Perry and Taylor Morgan at the No. 1 position 8-6.
In singles, at No. 1 King defeated Holmes's Jennifer Holland 6-0, 6-1; at No. 2 Norwood defeated Perry 7-5, 6-4; and at No. 3 Alyssa Wolfe of Foxworth defeated Holmes's Morgan 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Bulldogs were short three team members resulting is default wins for the Lady Wildcats at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and at singles No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6. The Wildcats are now 2-0 for the season after their sweep over the Bulldogs. The Wildcats dropped only one set the entire outing.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Blake Johnson of Lumberton and Blake Johnson of Columbia defeated Holmes's Tye Steele and Joseph Dees 8-6. Jordan Henry of Petal and Darnelle Sanford of Hattiesburg defeated Holmes's Chris Houghton and Tanner McGraw at the No. 2 position 8-1.
At the No. 3 position, Roy Odom of Gautier and Dustin Slade of Waveland defeated Holmes's Josh Pinkard and Jeffery Arnold 8-1. In singles, at No. 1 Johnson defeated Steele 6-1, 4-6, (10-8); at No. 2 Bracey defeated Dees 6-4, 6-0; at No. 3 Henry defeated Houghton 6-1, 7-5; at No. 4 Sanford defeated Arnold 6-1, 6-0; at No. 5 Odom defeated Pinkard 6-0, 6-0; and at No. 6 Slade defeated McGraw 6-0, 6-0. Pearl River returns to action Tuesday against Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs at the Biloxi Tennis Complex. Action gets underway at 12 noon. PRCC returns homer Wednesday to host Copiah-Lincoln beginning at 1 p.m.
