River falls at Northwest
Lady Wildcats suffer 3-2 road loss at Senatobia
SENATOBIA — Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats dropped to 9-6 overall after falling to Northwest Mississippi’s Lady Rangers here Friday in MACJC non-division softball action.
Northwest, on the other hand, evened its overall mark to 6-6.
Things remained scoreless for the first two innings before the Lady Wildcats went up 1-0 in the top of the third on to see the host answer with three runs in the bottom of the frame. PRCC added its final run in the top of the fourth.
Lady Ranger starter Magen Fullwood got the win in her four innings on the mound, while Rachel McDonald relieved in the fifth and Candice Brasher in the sixth.
Lady Wildcat starter Sheila Hall (2-4) out of Dutchtown High in Baton Rouge, La., got the loss in her three innings of action; while Katie Barrett of Bay High relieved in the fourth. Hall struck out two and walked one, while Barrett recorded one strikeout.
Brandy Rester of Poplarville High led PRCC’s five-hit effort with two base hits (one RBI), while Kaci Mitchell of Petal High doubled and Laurin Locke of Petal High and Mykeal Maes of Hancock County High (one RBI) both singled.
Northwest finished the game with seven hits, led by Haylei Plummer’s two singles, while Mandy Bolden, Candice Brasher, Ciara Small, Leigh Tedford, and Kayla Wilson all had base hits.
Each team committed three errors in the contest.
The Lady Wildcats return to action Wednesday when they open their MACJC South Division schedule at Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson (4 p.m. doubleheader), while division foe East Central plays host in Decatur Friday (1 p.m. doubleheader).
