Anonymous donor gives PRCC Athletic Department $35,000
POPLARVILLE—Pearl River Community College's Athletic Department has received an anonymous $35,000 donation.
Donna Wilson, executive director of the PRCC Development Foundation, announced that the gift was given through a charitable lead trust for a period of five years at $7,000 per year.
The gift was restricted to construction and equipment for the athletic department.
Keith Daniels, PRCC's athletic director, said the money will be used to support all Pearl River sports programs. Wildcat teams include football, basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis. Lady Wildcat teams include softball, basketball, and tennis.
"It's exciting that someone has enough interest in Pearl River College to give that kind of money," said Daniels. "It will certainly help our overall program."
Daniels said needs of the department and of each program will be analyzed with input from all the coaches and members of the PRCC administration.
"There are many thing we, as a college, could not realistically accomplish without this kind of assistance," said Daniels.
Last year, the college received a $20,000 donation from another donor to upgrade its weight room which is used by all sports programs.
Daniels said the first quarterly supplement of $1,750 was used toward the purchase of a tarp for the Wildcat baseball field.
The Wildcat Club has already
installed new public address systems for both the White Coliseum for basketball
and for the Wildcat baseball Diamond.

Wildcat Golf Team
Finishes Fourth In Division III At Invitational
MERIDIAN—Pearl River
Community College golfer Thomas Smith earned an All-Tournament honors Wednesday,
as the Picayune sophomore shot a team-low 78 to lead his Wildcat squad
to a fourth-place finish in the Rush Hospital-Meridian Community College
Invitational here at Northwood Country Club.
Smith's score was his lowest ever in two seasons with the Wildcats. PRCC shot a team score of 336, while Jones was third at 333, Copiah-Lincoln second at 332, and East Central first at 330. Southwest Mississippi finished fifth with a 227, while East Mississippi was sixth with a 365.
Smith was one stroke behind tournament medalist Jason Haley of ECCC. The duo were joined on the All-Tournament team by Tony Ellis of Co-Lin (79), Spenser Flisher of Jones (79), and Brandon Sumrall of Southwest (80).
Other Wildcat scores included Chris Causey of Petal with an 80 and Picayune freshmen Shawn Ferguson and Brandon Fornea, who shot rounds of 81 and 97, respectively.
"We only took four golfers up there, which meant we had to use the scores of all four of our players," PRCC golf coach Mike Humphreys said. "Your team score is comprised from the scores of your top four scorers. If we had had a fifth man competing, we could have easily won it. We wound-up finishing only six strokes back from first place."
PRCC and Mississippi Gulf Coast will co-host a tournament Monday at Pine Burr Country Club in Wiggins. Tee-off time is 9 a.m. Two more tournaments are scheduled before Hinds Community College hosts the 1998 State and Region 23 Tournament set for April 21-22 (Tuesday and Wednesday) at Eagle Ridge Country Club in Raymond.
Itawamba will host a tournament at Natchez Trace Country Club in Tupelo Tuesday, April 14, then Northwest hosts an event at Mallard Point Golf Club at John W. Kyle State Park in Sardis Wednesday, April 15, to end the 1998 regular season.
