Co-Lin Sweeps River In Division Openers;
Lady Wildcats Lose 74-51, Wildcats 76-69

     WESSON   Copiah-Lincoln swept Pearl River in both school's South Division
men's and women's basketball openers here Thursday.
     The Wildcats fell 76-69 to drop to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in division play, while the
Lady Wildcats were defeated 74-51 and dropped to 1-4 and 0-1. The host Wolves
improved to 7-1 and 1-0 with the win, while the Lady Wolves remained unbeaten at 8-0
and 1-0.
     Ten of the Lady Wildcats' 12 players scored in the women's contest, but Co-Lin
was in command at the intermission 55-27 and never looked back en route to the 23-
point victory.
     Daven Jenkins of Plaquemine, La., and Laura Walters of Petal paced Pearl River
with 10 points each, while Lori DeSilvey of Kiln (Hancock County) and LaKita Robertson
of Thibodeaux, La., added 8 each. Alicia Gavagnie of Bay St. Louis (Bay High) scored 4,
Nichole Hearns of Miami, Fla., 3; and Kara Primes of Poplarville, Quinisea Hatten of
Hattiesburg (North Forrest), Shana Caldwell of Lumberton (Sumrall), and Sarah
Nabours of Poplarville, 2 a piece.
     Victoria Mason was tops for Co-Lin with 13 points, Ann Webster and Tiffany Dales
11 each, Melanie Fairchild 8, Basheba Mays and Chastidy Sandifer 7 each, Rusti Smith 6,
Erica Bennet 4, Christi Wallace 3, and Sanequa Dennie 2.
     From the foul line, PRCC was 19 of 30 (63.3 percent), while Co-Lin was 20 of 33
(60.6 percent).
     In men's action, freshman James Singleton of Chicago, Ill., hit for a season-high
19 points to pace PRCC in its losing effort. The Wolves led 38-28 at the half. Pearl River
won the second half 41-38, but it wasn't quite enough and Co-Lin took the seven-point
win.
     Besides Singleton, Neal Broome of Bassfield scored 15, Lamayn Wilson of
Highland Home, Ala., 11; Artrise (Freeze) Stampley 9, Marcus Millhouse of Selma, Ala.,
8; Taboris Lindsey of Hattiesburg 4, and Doug Green of Columbia (Columbia Academy)

     Barry Whitley's game-high 25 points led Co-Lin, while Gariel Brownlee added 12,
Brandon Dickerson and Thomas Terrell 10 each, Rod Haynes 7, and Elwood Brown and
Curtis Walker 6 each.
     From the foul line, PRCC was 12 of 20 (60 percent), while Co-Lin was 13 of 14
(92.8 percent).
     Pearl River plays Delgado Saturday in New Orleans (women 2 p.m., men 4 p.m.),
then participates in the Gulf Coast Tournament Monday and Tuesday (times and
opponents to be announced). It's more division action Tuesday, November 30, when East
Central visits M.R. White Coliseum and Thursday, December 2, then Jones plays host in
Ellisville (women 6 p.m., men 8 p.m.). PRCC wraps-up it's pre-Christmas holiday
schedule Tuesday, December 7, playing Okaloosa-Walton in Niceville, Fla. (women 5:30
p.m., men 7:30 p.m.).
