Inaugural Wildcat Soccer Team Ends Season
With 2-1 Double-OT Loss In State Tourney
Pearl River Finish Season At 8-6-2; Delta Played Hinds For Men's Title Sat.

RAYMOND   The Pearl River Community College Wildcats saw their inaugural
soccer season draw to a heartbreaking close here Friday with a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime
loss to defending state champion Mississippi Delta in the MACJC State Tournament on the
Hinds Community College campus.
PRCC, which finished the year at 8-6-2, entered the tourney as the South Division's
second seed behind Mississippi Gulf Coast. The top-seeded Bulldogs lost to Hinds, the
North's second seed, 1-0 in Friday's nightcap. North top seed Delta played the host Eagles
for the title at 4 p.m. Saturday.
In Friday's women's action, South top seed Gulf Coast blitzed Holmes-Goodman
(second in North) 7-0 to move into Saturday's championship game against Hinds, 4-1
winners over Jones, the South's second seed.
Against Mississippi Delta, Trojan midfielder Wesley Barnes scored with 7:06 left in
the first half for a 1-0 lead that stood at intermission. Wildcat midfielder Jonathan Neyman
of Hattiesburg (Oak Grove) tied it up with 8:49 left and regulation ended at 1-1. The first
sudden death overtime period was scoreless, but it took midfielder Brian Strazi only 49
seconds into the second OT to end the game with a goal and push the Trojans into the title
game.
The contest marked the third time PRCC had played Mississippi Delta this season.
The Wildcats lost 2-0 on September 8 and 1-0 on October 23.
     Chris D'Ambrosio coaches the Wildcats.
Coach Adam Breerwood's Lady Wildcats concluded their first season with a 4-1 loss
to Mississippi Gulf Coast on October 14. PRCC's women posted a 2-5-2 record.
