Inaugural Wildcat Soccer
Team Ends Season
With 2-1 Double-OT Loss
In State Tourney
Pearl River Finish
Season At 8-6-2; Delta Played Hinds For Men's Title Sat.

RAYMOND The Pearl River Community College Wildcats saw their
inaugural
soccer season draw to a
heartbreaking close here Friday with a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime
loss to defending state
champion Mississippi Delta in the MACJC State Tournament on the
Hinds Community College
campus.
PRCC, which finished the year at 8-6-2, entered the tourney as the South
Division's
second seed behind Mississippi
Gulf Coast. The top-seeded Bulldogs lost to Hinds, the
North's second seed, 1-0
in Friday's nightcap. North top seed Delta played the host Eagles
for the title at 4 p.m.
Saturday.
In Friday's women's action, South top seed Gulf Coast blitzed Holmes-Goodman
(second in North) 7-0 to
move into Saturday's championship game against Hinds, 4-1
winners over Jones, the
South's second seed.
Against Mississippi Delta, Trojan midfielder Wesley Barnes scored with
7:06 left in
the first half for a 1-0
lead that stood at intermission. Wildcat midfielder Jonathan Neyman
of Hattiesburg (Oak Grove)
tied it up with 8:49 left and regulation ended at 1-1. The first
sudden death overtime period
was scoreless, but it took midfielder Brian Strazi only 49
seconds into the second
OT to end the game with a goal and push the Trojans into the title
game.
The contest marked the third time PRCC had played Mississippi Delta this
season.
The Wildcats lost 2-0 on
September 8 and 1-0 on October 23.

Coach Adam Breerwood's Lady Wildcats concluded their first season with
a 4-1 loss
to Mississippi Gulf Coast
on October 14. PRCC's women posted a 2-5-2 record.
