PRCC STUDENT WINS FOX’S MASTERCHEF
Whitney Miller, an alumnus of Pearl River Community College and resident of Poplarville made her first appearance as a contestant on MasterChef, Fox’s new hit show on Tuesday, July 27. Whitney found out about the television show on NOLA.com and decided to head to New Orleans to audition. MasterChef is an expiring cooking competition where they must prove their talent to three judges, one being famous Gordon Ramsay from Hell’s Kitchen. After a nerve racking and tough competition, Miller won the title of MasterChef and we are very proud of her accomplishments!
Miller said she first started cooking in high school every night for her entire family. Miller has always had a passion for cooking, even since she was a young child. Miller has had no formal training; she has taught herself by watching cooking shows and reading cookbooks. Whitney attended PRCC and transferred to USM where she is majoring in Nutrition and Biology. Miller said she enjoyed her time at PRCC. She told us her first class for public speaking at PRCC gave her the confidence and strength to speak confidently to the judges and on television. When we asked Whitney what she learned through the MasterChef cooking competition, she said she learned to be confident in the skills that she has.
She has learned that it’s the simple ingredients in Mississippi foods that can make Southern food gourmet; and she learned through the competition that she had matured and found independence. The Pearl River Family is proud to call Whitney Miller one of our own! Congratulations to you and your family!
