PRCC baseball to host kids hitting camp in January

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College baseball will host a kids hitting camp in late January and early February.

The camp will allow young hitters ages 6-12 to develop proper mechanics from college coaches and players.

Campers will be divided into small age-appropriate groups and taught hitting drills, participate in multiple drill stations and get live reps in batting practice. These stations will take place on the PRCC baseball field and in the indoor batting cages.

Polk set to speak at PRCC baseball First Pitch Dinner

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College baseball team will host its second annual First Pitch Dinner as a way of introducing the 2018 Wildcats to the public. The dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Bender Cafeteria on the PRCC campus.

Former longtime Mississippi State baseball coach Ron Polk will be the featured speaker, and each member of the PRCC team will be introduced.

Polk has been called, “the Father of Southeastern Conference Baseball,” as his success at MSU in the 1980s and ‘90s paved the way for SEC baseball to become a national powerhouse.

Wildcat baseball sophomores sign college offers

POPLARVILLE – Two Pearl River Community College baseball sophomores have signed college scholarship offers to continue their careers at the next level.

First baseman Simon Landry has signed with the University of Houston, while right-handed pitcher Colby White signed with Mississippi State. Both signed Wednesday during the first day of the week-long early signing period for all NCAA sports except football.

Pro players to lead PRCC baseball camp

Pearl River Community College has sent a number of its baseball standouts to the professional ranks, and now some of those former Wildcats are returning to lead a new generation of players.

PRCC will host a special Day with the Pros, this coming Sunday, Oct. 1, at Wildcat Field on the Pearl River campus. A number of ex-Wildcats have indicated that they plan to attend, and Wildcat head coach Michael Avalon says other standouts may join in.

Wildcats place five players on All-State second team

Five players for Pearl River Community College were named to the 2017 All-MACJC baseball second team, in voting by conference coaches.

Earning second-team honors were first baseman Simon Landry, third baseman Lucas Scott, and pitchers Colby White, Luke Bradley and Peyton Lee.

Landry, a freshman from Ponchatoula, La., led the Wildcats in most offensive categories this season. He had 52 hits in 171 at-bats, scored 45 runs, drove in 46 runs, hit 13 doubles and 14 home runs, all team highs. He finished with a .304 batting average.

Wildcats fall in Region 23 semifinals to end 2017 season

Pearl River Community College finally ran out of miracles Friday night as the Wildcats saw their 2017 season come to an end with an 11-3 defeat at the hands of Hinds in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Ellisville.

PRCC advanced to Friday’s late game by edging Northwest Mississippi earlier on Friday, winning 10-8 in a 10-inning thriller. Pearl River finished its first season under head coach Michael Avalon with a 29-20 overall record.
