Wildcats fall in Region 23 semifinals to end 2017 season

Pearl River Community College finally ran out of miracles Friday night as the Wildcats saw their 2017 season come to an end with an 11-3 defeat at the hands of Hinds in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Ellisville.

PRCC advanced to Friday’s late game by edging Northwest Mississippi earlier on Friday, winning 10-8 in a 10-inning thriller. Pearl River finished its first season under head coach Michael Avalon with a 29-20 overall record.

Wildcats drop pair of one-run games at Itawamba

Pearl River Community College baseball has made comebacks a big part of its game during a 10-game winning streak, and that was the case again Saturday in an MACJC doubleheader at Itawamba.

This time, however, it wasn’t enough as the ninth-ranked Indians swept the two games, winning the opener 5-4 in 12 innings, then holding off the Wildcats in the nightcap 7-6.

The losses knocked PRCC (15-7 overall, 6-2 conference) out of first place in the MACJC standings. Itawamba improved to 20-4 and 7-1.
