Wildcats bag state tournament berth with victory

Brandon CranfordPOPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College men may have already officially clinched a berth in the MACJC State Basketball Tournament before they took the floor against Mississippi Gulf Coast, but the Wildcats wanted to leave no doubt.

 And they did just that, shooting down the Bulldogs 90-73 Monday night at Perkinston.

Wildcats get job done in big win over East Central

POPLARVILLE – Although there is still plenty of work to be done, the Pearl River Community College men are closing in on a spot in the MACJC State Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats snapped a two-game losing streak with an important 72-64 victory over East Central Thursday night at M.R. White Coliseum.

PRCC (16-4 overall) remained in a tie with Mississippi Gulf Coast for second place in the South Division at 8-4 in division play, one game behind Copiah-Lincoln. ECCC (9-12, 3-9) was eliminated from postseason consideration with the loss.

Lady Wildcats lose to hot-shooting East Central

POPLARVILLE – If the Pearl River Community College women are to qualify for the MACJC State Basketball Tournament, it will have to be done on the road.

The Lady Wildcats ran into a second quarter buzz-saw against East Central and never really recovered, suffering a disappointing 64-58 defeat Thursday night at M.R. White Coliseum.

Wildcats rally only to lose on buzzer-beater at Hinds

POPLARVILLE – A stirring comeback by Pearl River Community College went for naught Thursday night as Hinds handed the Wildcats their second consecutive defeat in men’s South Division play at Utica.

The Bulldogs scored the winning basket with one second to play, handing PRCC an 84-82 defeat, after the Wildcats had rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit to tie the game.

Pearl River (15-4 overall) dropped into a tie for second place in the South Division with Mississippi Gulf Coast at 7-4 in division play. Hinds (8-10, 5-6) kept its postseason hopes alive with the win.

Lady Wildcats drop tough decision against Hinds

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College hit a dry spell late in the third quarter, and were unable to bounce back, dropping a hard-fought 72-65 decision to Hinds Monday night in South Division women’s basketball action at Utica.

PRCC (12-7 overall) dropped into a three-way tie with Hinds (14-6) and Meridian for fourth place in the South at 5-6 in division.

Wildcats come up dry in loss to Jones County

POPLARVILLE – Maybe the Pearl River Community College men’s basketball team was due for a letdown against Jones County.

Whatever the case, the Wildcats broke down offensively with their worst game of the season, scoring just 14 points in the second half and dropping a key South Division contest to the Bobcats 53-47 Thursday night at White Coliseum.

PRCC (14-2 overall) remained in a tie for first place in the South Division at 6-2; Meridian dropped to 5-12 and 2-6.

Wildcats regain share of division lead with big victory

POPLARVILLE – Chris Oney couldn’t contain his enthusiasm after his Pearl River Community College men’s basketball team came away with a huge South Division victory.

The Wildcats shot the lights out virtually from start to finish and dominated Copiah-Lincoln 79-61 triumph Monday night at M.R. White Coliseum.

PRCC (13-2 overall, 5-2 division) regained a share of the division lead with the Wolves (14-2, 5-2), whose seven-game winning streak was snapped.
