MACJC, Region 23 champ Pearl River opens soccer season Saturday when Northwest visits Wildcat Stadium

POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College’s state and regional champion women’s and men’s soccer squads officially kick off their 2013 seasons here Saturday when MACJC non-division rival Northwest Mississippi visits Wildcat Stadium Saturday for a pair of contests.
The Lady Wildcats, ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA’s Division I preseason poll released Wednesday, kick off the afternoon’s action at 12 noon; while the Wildcats will play the Ranger squad at 2 p.m.
The PRCC squads pulled off an unprecedented accomplishment a year ago when they both won MACJC and Region 23 championships. PRCC’s women finished their season at 12-3 overall --- good enough for a No. 20 ranking in the final NJCAA poll --- while the Wildcats wrapped their season at 14-1 but didn’t make the final men’s poll, as well as the 2013 preseason poll.
The Lady Wildcats are the only women’s or men’s team in Mississippi to make their respective preseason poll.
Jack Byrd enters his fifth season as head coach of the Lady Wildcats, while Paul Martin enters his third at the helm of the Wildcat team.
