PRCC women drop two straight

            POPLARVILLE --- After Pearl River Community College’s 14th-ranked Lady Wildcat soccer team opened it season with a stunning 8-0 MACJC non-division victory over Northwest Mississippi, it has since dropped two straight.
            PRCC fell to eighth-ranked Darton (Ga.) 4-1 on Friday in Poplarville before second-ranked East Florida State took a shocking 6-0 shutout win on the Mississippi Gulf Coast campus in Perkinston on Saturday.
            The River women are now 1-2 overall.
            Against Darton, Pearl River got on the board in the first minute of play when Karley Mitchell of Poplarville High banged in a goal with 44:02 left in the half; but Janay Campbell tied it up a minute later with her first of two goals on the afternoon.
            With 33:01 left in the half, Lyana Perez put Darton up 2-1; while Campbell scored her second goal at the 14:50 mark. Darton led 3-1 at the half.
            Perez scored the game’s final goal with 32:07 left. PRCC’s Chelsea Parsons of Biloxi High missed a penalty kick with 3:45 left.
            Against East Florida State at Perkinston, the visitors scored three goals in the first and second halves to take the 6-0 shutout.
            Pearl River’s women and men return to action Friday when they travel to Ridgeland to take on MACJC non-division host Holmes at 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men), while the Wildcat squad hosts Broward (Fla.) Saturday at 2 p.m.
            Both teams remain dormant until Friday, Sept. 6, when they open MACJC South Division play at Jones County in Ellisville with 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men) contests.
