Second-ranked Lady Bobcats drill Lady Wildcats 9-0 in five to open MACJC Tournament

 FULTON --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats face the end of their season after falling to the second-ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats 9-0 in five innings Friday in their opening game of the MACJC State Softball Tournament underway here at Itawamba Community College.
PRCC will face North Division champ ICC, 8-2 losers to Mississippi Gulf Coast to open Friday’s action, at 3 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game. JCJC, the South Division champ, takes on MGCCC to kickoff Saturday’s action with the loser of that contest playing the PRCC-ICC winner at 5 p.m.

Pearl River sends Northwest packing

          SENATOBIA --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats grabbed a berth in May 2-4’s MACJC State Softball Tournament at Itawamba Community College in Fulton after downing Northwest Mississippi 5-4 in the deciding game of a best-of-three series here Saturday.
            PRCC downed the host Lady Rangers 5-1 on Friday in the first game of the series.

River sweeps East Central in regular season finale

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College clinched a post-season playoff berth with a 4-3, 7-3 MACJC South Division softball sweep over East Central here Tuesday in Lady Wildcat Stadium to wrap the regular season for both squads.
            With the wins, PRCC clinched the No. 3 spot in the South and will now travel to North No. 2 Northwest Mississippi in Senatobia Friday and Saturday for a best-of-three series to decide one of four berths in the MACJC State Tournament set for May 2-4.

Co-Lin sweeps River

            WESSON --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats have dug themselves a hole after getting swept by Copiah-Lincoln in MACJC South Division softball action here Tuesday.

            After falling 3-2 and 2-1 (eight innings) to the host Lady Wolfpack, PRCC now must sweep division rival East Central in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday in Poplarville in order to make the post-season playoff cut. The River dropped to 22-16 overall and 16-10 in division play, while CLCC is now 23-15 and 15-11.

Jones sweeps River

            ELLISVILLE --- Sixth-ranked and division-leading Jones County swept Pearl River in MACJC South Division softball action here Friday in Community Bank Park, taking a 6-5 come-from-behind victory in the first game before dominating the visiting Lady Wildcats 9-1 in five innings in the nightcap.
            With the wins, JCJC improved to 36-2 overall and 22-2 in division play, while PRCC dropped to 22-14 and 16-8.

River splits with Gulf Coast

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River split with Mississippi Gulf Coast here Wednesday in MACJC South Division softball action, winning the first game of the doubleheader 3-2 before falling 9-2 in the nightcap game.
            The host Lady Wildcats are now 22-12 overall and 16-6 in division play, while the visiting Lady Bulldogs are 26-15 and 13-9.

River cans Meridian

            MERIDIAN --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats pulled off their third straight MACJC South Division doubleheader sweep here Saturday, downing Meridian CC 10-4 and 9-0 (five innings).
            Saturday’s victories made it a clean sweep of MCC in 2014 for The River, as the Lady ’Cats bombed the Lady Eagles in a previous twin bill played March 7 in Poplarville by 8-0 (six innings) and 9-1 (5.2 innings) scores to open its South Division schedule.
            PRCC improved to 21-11 overall and 15-5 in division play, while Meridian dropped to 2-29 and 1-19.

Pearl River sweeps Southwest

  Becky Mitchell          POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats swept Southwest Mississippi in MACJC South Division softball action here Thursday, shutting out the visiting Lady Bears 7-0 in the first game of the doubleheader before claiming a 5-4 victory in the nightcap contest.

River sweeps Hinds

            RAYMOND --- Pearl River’s Lady Wildcats swept Hinds in MACJC South Division doubleheader softball action here Wednesday, bombing the host Lady Eagles 10-4 in the first game of the twin bill before pulling out a 5-4 wins in the nightcap contest.
            The victories made it a clean sweep of HCC in 2014, as the Lady ’Cats also boast 8-0 (five innings) and 4-3 wins in a previous meeting between the two teams played March 4 in Poplarville.
            PRCC improved to 17-11 overall and 11-5 in division play, while Hinds dropped to 9-23 and 5-13.

PRCC, ECCC split doubleheader with identical 8-0 victories

            DECATUR --- Pearl River and East Central split here Tuesday in MACJC South Division softball action with each team claiming six-inning, 8-0 victories.
            The host Lady Warriors are now 24-8 overall, while the Lady Wildcats are 15-11. Both teams remain tied for second place in the division at 8-4 behind nationally-ranked and undefeated Jones County (28-0, 14-0).
ECCC’s Kendra Wilson hurled a two-hitter to propel ECCC to its shutout win, while PRCC’s Rachel Hickman of Poplarville High allowed just one hit in the Lady Wildcats’ shutout.
