Color guard, String of Pearls to perform at PRCC football games

POPLARVILLE - When the Spirit of the River marching band takes the field Thursday, Sept. 2, at Pearl River Community College''s first football game of the season, six young women will be leading the color guard and the String of Pearls dance squad.Color guard captain is Andrea Maxwell of Hattiesburg and co-captains are Courtney Morris of Ocean Springs and Haley Jones of Carriere.Hayleigh McCardle of Carriere is String of Pearls captain. Co-captains are Kristina Williams of Carriere and Kellie Lumpkin of Picayune.The Spirit of the River band will perform before the game against Northwest Community College and at halftime. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.The PRCC Alumni Association will host a tailgating party with finger foods and entertainment at 6 p.m. across the street from Dobie Holden Stadium. Cost is $5 per person.Thirteen students perform in the color guard under the direction of Missy Bliss.Maxwell, 19, is a sophomore graduate of Oak Grove High School. She is the daughter of Andy and Jody Maxwell and Lisa Maxwell, all of Hattiesburg.Morris is also 19 and a sophomore. The daughter of Bridget and James Campbell of Ocean Springs, she is a graduate of Pascagoula High School.Jones is the daughter of Raymond and Shawn Jones of Carriere. A sophomore, she is a 19-year-old graduate of Pearl River Central High School.The String of Pearls includes 19 dancers. Director is Kara Fleming.McCardle, 19, is a sophomore graduate of Pearl River Central High School. She is the daughter of Sandy and Frank McCardle of Carriere.Williams is also a 19-year-old sophomore graduate of Pearl River Central High School. She is the daughter of J.W. and Susan Williams of Carriere.Lumpkin, the daughter of Doug and Karen Lumpkin of Picayune, is also a sophomore. She is a 19-year-old graduate of Picayune Memorial High School.
