Wildcats'' German first-team NJCAA All-American for 2010

POPLARVILLE Pearl River Community College quarterback Melvin German has been named a NJCAA first-team All-American for the 2010 season. German, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound freshman who prepped at Dunbar High in Fort Myers, Fla.; led the state and nation in passing this past season, completing 65 percent (240 of 369 attempts) for 2,728 yards (303.1-yard per-game average) and 16 touchdowns. He only threw six interceptions during PRCC nine-game season. German, who was named Region 23''s Most Valuable Back while copping All-MACJC honors, finished fourth nationally in individual total offense with 2,847 yards (316.3-yard per-game average). He led the Wildcats in scoring with eight rushing touchdowns. There nobody any more deserving of that honor, said Pearl River head coach Tim Hatten. Melvin is among the best quarterback to ever play here and could wind up breaking every passing record before he finished. German and Mississippi Gulf Coast offensive lineman Jeremy Graffree and wide receiver Javon Bell are the only three first-team All-Americans coming out of the Mississippi Association of Junior & Community Colleges conference.
