Instrumental Ensembles

"Spirit of the River" Marching Band

The "Spirit" is the largest and most visible of the instrumental ensembles at PRCC. Consisting of over 145 members, the "Spirit" is the highlight of the halftime entertainment at Wildcat football games and area parades.

The "Spirit" has been recognized as one of the most outstanding marching bands in South Mississippi and is actively sought after as an exhibition band for marching contest throughout the region. Instrumentalists are chosen upon recommendation of their high school directors or by audition. Guard and "String of Pearl" members are selected through an audition in the spring semester of each year. A full tuition scholarship is awarded to every member of the "Spirit of the River" during the fall semester.

PRCC Symphonic Band

The PRC Symphonic Band performs and rehearses during the Spring semester of each academic year. Members are auditioned at the end of the Fall semester for placement in their respective sections. Concerts include a traditional literature concert and a pop concert. A concert is given at the Pearl River Regional Band Clinic with a more traditional concert in April. Scholarships for the Spring semester are awarded to all members of the Symphonic Band.

"Jazz Cats" Jazz Band

The “Jazz Cats” consists of 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, and a rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar, percussion, and drums). Members are selected through an audition held during the Fall semester of each year. The “Jazz Cats” tours the district high schools during the Spring semester and performs at various school and civic functions. Repertoire consists of rock, jazz, Latin, and swing styles. A scholarship is available to each member during the Spring semester.
