PRCC - Kaplan Entrance Exam

Spring 2021 Testing Dates:

August 31, September 14, 21, & 28.

Times - 9am and 1pm

Registration opens July 1st for Spring Entrance / December 1st for Fall Entrance

PRCC – Associate Degree Nursing:

  • Kaplan Entrance Exam must be taken on the PRCC – Poplarville Campus if candidate is applying to the PRCC ADN program.
  • Candidates applying to the ADN program, may take the exam once during an application period.
  • Exam scores are valid for three (3) years.
  • Kaplan scores are non-transferrable from PRCC – ADN program.
  • Registration fee is $50.00 per test administration – Fee is non-refundable and test dates are non-transferable.
  • Submit online payment via PayPal using credit or debit card. Exam registration name must match name on PayPal account. Payment link will be available after registration is submitted.  Payment must be completed in order for registration to be considered valid.


Day of Testing:

  • Kaplan Entrance Exam is administered on the PRCC Poplarville campus in the computer lab of the Nursing Building.
  • All candidates must take the exam on the day registered.
  • All candidates must provide proof of payment via PayPal.
  • All candidates must provide two valid proofs of identification.
  • No electronic devices or personal belongings allowed in the testing area.
  • Must arrive 30 minutes early for COVID-19 screening and testing check-in. Masks must be worn at all times.
  • No one is allowed to enter once testing has started.
  • You will be issued a username and password when you arrive for testing. You will need these credentials to access and print your results. Test results will be available immediately after completion of test.

Kaplan Entrance Exam is a tool to determine if students have the academic skills necessary to perform effectively in a school of nursing. The Entrance Exam is a 91-question, multiple-choice test that evaluates the basic reading, math, writing, and science skills of students seeking entry into a nursing program leading to RN licensure.



The reading section contains 22 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. The topics will vary and may contain a science, nature, or historical theme. Candidates read four passages and answer questions that measure the essential skills required for reading: Determining the logic of a passage, Comprehending details, Drawing basic inferences, and Identifying the purpose of a passage.



The math section contains 28 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. The questions contain basic arithmetic to algebra and are in the form of a basic equation or word problem. The test measures the candidate’s ability to apply mathematical principles in the following areas: Conversions, Operations, Ratios, and Word problems.



The writing section contains 21 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. Candidates read nine passages and answer questions that measure the essential skills required for writing:  Assessing passage development, Assessing paragraph logic, and Assessing mechanics of writing.



The science section contains 20 questions to be answered in 30 minutes. The test measures the candidate’s knowledge of physiology in the following areas: Cardiovascular system, Electrolytes, Gastrointestinal system, Immune system, Neurology, Renal system, Hematological system, Homeostasis, Respiratory system, and Sensory system.
