In the fall of 2006, many of the algebra courses offered at Pearl River began using an online-assignment system called MyMathLab. This system provides the students with interactive tutorial exercises, eBook and multimedia learning aids and online tutoring from a Math Tutor center.

To assist our students with this computer-based instruction, Pearl River opened an assistance center for the students and we call it Math Power. Beginning in the fall of 2007 a Math Power facility is available on both the Poplarville and Hattiesburg campuses. Each facility is equipped with 30 computers and a LaserJet printer. Two full-time staff members and several work-study students are available to assist students with their mathematics assignments.

Math Power is open to all Pearl River Community College students enrolled in mathematics and provides tutoring services for all levels of mathematics. Pearl River Community College students in online mathematics courses have exams/tests proctored in this location. Math Power utilizes many resources other than just MyMathLab. Among other things, students are given access to computer-algebra systems, graphing software and internet search capabilities.
