Wildcats open fall season with pair of victories

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College opened its fall baseball season on Thursday with a pair of victories in action at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

The Wildcats rolled to a 14-5 win over Bishop State (Ala.), then trounced Baton Rouge (La.) 11-4.

Sophomore first baseman Gage Teer was 3-for-5 in the two games, driving in six runs on a home run, a double and a single to lead the Wildcats at the plate.

Wildcats prepare for fall baseball season

POPLARVILLE – After a disastrous season this past spring, Pearl River Community College baseball coach Josh Hoffpauir hopes a positive attitude pays off in a big turnaround.

The Wildcats have been hard at work in offseason drills as they prepare for the 2015 fall exhibition season, which begins Oct. 1 with a doubleheader against Baton Rouge (La.) at Nicholls State University.

In all, PRCC will play six games in the month of October.

Weather prompts second postponement of summer showcase at Pearl River

   POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College’s high school baseball showcase, originally scheduled for May 16, has been postponed for a second time due to bad weather conditions.
The showcase-tryout was rescheduled for May 27 due to weather, but weather conditions prompted a second postponement until Friday, June 12.
Registration for the rescheduled event will start at 10 a.m.
            College and professional scouts will be in attendance for the pro-style workout for incoming college high school freshman and 2015 high school graduates.

River’s Mount on All-Region 23 team, joins Hayes on All-MACJC squad

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College baseball infielder Derrick Mount was named to the prestigious All-Region 23 squad for 2015 and joined standout pitcher Jordan Hayes on the All-MACJC team.
            Two other Wildcats were named to the All-MACJC second team in outfielder Jalen Haskin and pitcher Jacob Taylor.

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College’s high school baseball showcase, originally scheduled for May 16, has been postponed until Wednesday, May 27 due to bad weather conditions.
Registration for the event will start at 3 p.m. with the showcase beginning at 4 p.m.
            College and professional scouts will be in attendance for the pro-style workout for incoming high school freshman and high school seniors.
            Registration cost is $75.

Baseball Summer Showcase May 16

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College baseball will host its annual High School Showcase, Saturday, May 16, in Wildcat Stadium here on campus.
            The showcase is set for 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. with check in at 9:15 a.m.
            College and professional scouts will be in attendance for the pro-style workout for incoming high school freshman to 2015 high school graduates.
            Registration cost is $75.

Holmes sweeps River 8-7, 13-9

    POPLARVILLE --- The Pearl River Wildcats were swept by the rival Holmes Bulldogs here Saturday in MACJC doubleheader baseball action, dropping the hotly-contested first game 8-7 before falling 13-9 in the nightcap.
    PRCC dropped to 13-29 overall and 7-19 in league play, while HCC improved to 21-19 and 12-14.
    Holmes’ Cole Feazell (8-2) picked up both mound wins for the Bulldogs, the first as a reliever before starting the second game.

Pearl River’s Derrick Mount MACJC Player of the Week

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College sophomore infielder Derrick Mount has been named MACJC Player of the Week for his amazing offensive effort in April 15’s doubleheader sweep over Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson.
            Mount, a Southeastern Louisiana signee who prepped at Harrison Central High School, went six of 11 in the twin bill, including three home runs and a double and accounted for 10 RBIs.
