River falls in Region 23 title bout to Jones 80-67

CLINTON --- ’Cat Fight III was all Jones County here Saturday in the men’s title bout of the Region 23 Tournament in A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus.
The 19th-ranked Bobcats are now headed to March 17-22’s NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., after ending Pearl River’s season with an 80-67 victory over the Wildcats, marking the first time in history that a Jones team (men or women) has earned a national berth.
JCJC improved to 22-5 with the win, while PRCC wrapped its season at 18-8.

Pearl River women, men eye Region 23 Tournament play starting Wednesday in Clinton

POPLARVILLE --- Three NJCAA National Tournament berths are on the line this week when Mississippi College in Clinton plays host to the women’s and men’s 2014 Region 23 Basketball Tournament in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
Eight women’s and eight men’s squads will provide the hoops action with the women’s title bout contenders grabbing two national berths, while the regional men’s champ will earn a berth. That scenario changes annually, as next year the men’s top two finishers will snag two national berths to the women’s one.

River women eliminated from MACJC Tournament with 74-71 loss to Jones

FULTON --- Pearl River's Lady Wildcats were eliminated from the MACJC State Tournament underway Wednesday here at Itawamba CC with a 74-71 semi-final setback to arch-rival Jones County.
PRCC, the South No. 3 seed, is now 16- 7 overall, while JCJC, the South No. 1 seed, improved to 18-7. Both teams eye berths in next week's Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi College in Clinton.
The River eliminated North No. 2 Itawamba 63-52, while JCJC dominated North No. 4 Northwest Mississippi 91-62 in Tuesday's quarter-finals to get the the semis.

Lady 'Cats in MACJC semis

FULTON --- Pearl River's Lady Wildcats are two wins away from their first state championship in over two decades after an impressive 63-52 come-from-behind victory over Itawamba in women's opening-round action of the MACJC State Tournament underway here in ICC's Davis Event Center.
South No. 3 PRCC, 16-5 overall, will face off with South No. 1 Jones County (17-7) Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the semi-finals. JCJC blasted North No. 4 Northwest Mississippi (12-9) 91-62 in Tuesday's quarter-finals.

East Miss' come-from-behind effort eliminates Pearl River in MACJC State Tournament

     FULTON --- Pearl River Community College's hopes of a repeat as men's state champions flew out the window Monday, as North No. 2 East Mississippi put together a late come-from-behind rally to eliminate the South No. 3 Wildcats with a 73-68 opening-round victory in the MACJC State Tournament underway here in Itawamba CC's Davis Event Center.
    The victorious Lions started slow, but managed to tie it up early in the second half before taking their first lead with 5:30 left.
