POPLARVILLE – NJCAA sixth-ranked Jones County showed why it’s a Top 10 team Saturday afternoon, running over Pearl River Community College 92-61 in women’s junior college basketball action at Ellisville.
The Lady Wildcats dropped to 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the South Division. JCJC improved to 11-2 and 4-0.
PRCC scored the first basket of the game to lead 2-0, but the Lady Bobcats scored the next 10 points to take a 12-2 lead and never looked back. Jones led 23-13 after the first quarter and 44-25 at halftime.
POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College started strong and stayed strong down the stretch Thursday night, posting a big 75-69 upset of Hinds in women’s basketball action at M.R. White Coliseum.
The Lady Wildcats (7-3 overall) led from start to finish to earn their first South Division win of the season after two defeats in division play. Hinds (10-2, 1-2) lost its second straight game.
PRCC took command right from the start, leading 19-10 after the first quarter, as sophomore Tariah Mouton (Meridian) had nine of her career-high 21 points in the first 10 minutes.
POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College faded down the stretch Thursday night, dropping a 59-49 decision to Southwest Mississippi in women’s basketball action at Summit.
PRCC dropped to 6-3 overall and 0-2 in the South Division; Southwest improved to 10-1 and 1-1.
The Lady Wildcats battled from behind for most of the game, but stayed in the game until the final few minutes. Southwest owned a 10-9 lead after the first quarter and led 28-21 at halftime.
POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College started strong and finished stronger Tuesday night, returning to action with a 71-31 victory over Delgado in women’s junior college basketball action at M.R. White Coliseum.
The Lady Wildcats (6-2) led throughout in their first game back after the Christmas holiday break. Delgado dropped to 2-11.
PRCC broke open the game with its defense, forcing nine turnovers in a decisive 9-1 run to take a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
POPLARVILLE – After a month-long layoff for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the women’s basketball team at Pearl River Community College is ready to get back on the court.
PRCC resumes its 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon at Marvin R. White Coliseum against LSU-Eunice at 2 p.m.
The Lady Wildcats will be looking to avenge one of their two defeats on the season when they take on LSU-Eunice. The Lady Bengals handed PRCC a 74-65 setback on Nov. 16 at Eunice.
POPLARVILLE – A poor night at the foul line and too many turnovers spelled defeat for Pearl River Community College as the Lady Wildcats dropped their South Division opener 53-48 to Meridian at M.R. White Coliseum.
The Lady Wildcats dropped to 5-2 overall; Meridian improved to 6-1 with its sixth consecutive victory.
PRCC trailed early 7-0, but fought back and held a brief lead late in the first quarter before Meridian regained the lead. The Lady Eagles led 22-18 at halftime and had a 13-point lead late in the third period before the Lady Wildcats rallied.
POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College rebounded from its first loss of the season by getting past Bishop State (Ala.) 60-55 in women’s basketball action Thursday night at Mobile, Ala.

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College improved to 4-0 for the season Tuesday with a 71-54 victory over Coastal Alabama at Monroeville, Ala.
Pearl River Community College got another balanced scoring effort in a one-sided 77-53 victory over the Louisiana College junior varsity in women’s basketball action Wednesday night at M.R. White Coliseum.
The Lady Wildcats remained undefeated after their first three games of the season.
PRCC had 10 players make it onto the scoresheet, with four reaching double figures, led by freshman Shauntelle Adams (Brandon), who had 13 points off the bench.
