POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College came up dry offensively at the worst possible moment, and as a result the Lady Wildcats’ dreams of a postseason berth were dashed.
PRCC was held scoreless for the final 2:45 of the game and fell to Copiah-Lincoln 53-46 in women’s basketball action Thursday night at Wesson.
The loss, coupled with Hinds’ victory over East Central, knocked Pearl River (14-9 overall, 6-8 division) out of spot in the MACJC State Tournament. Co-Lin, which had already clinched a postseason berth, improved to 20-3 and 11-3.
The Lady Wildcats battled hard, and led 15-13 after the first quarter and 26-25 at halftime.
However, the Lady Wolves converted 7 of 10 shots from the field in the third quarter to take command, leading 40-35 heading in to the final quarter.
PRCC fought back, outscoring Co-Lin 9-4, and tied the game 44-44 with 3:50 to play on five points by sophomore Charisma Walker (Brandon) on two field goals and a free throw.
The Lady Wolves quickly regained the lead on a three-point play, then extended the lead to 48-44 on a foul shot with 3:01 to play.
Sophomore Rah Franklin (New Orleans) cut the lead to 48-46 with a short jump shot in the lane, but those were the last points for Pearl River, as the Lady Wildcats missed their last six shots and eight of their last nine.
Sophomore Tariah Mouton (Meridian) scored 12 points to lead PRCC. Walker had 11 points and 16 rebounds and Franklin finished with 10 points.
