POPLARVILLE – After a month-long layoff for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the women’s basketball team at Pearl River Community College is ready to get back on the court.
PRCC resumes its 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon at Marvin R. White Coliseum against LSU-Eunice at 2 p.m.
The Lady Wildcats will be looking to avenge one of their two defeats on the season when they take on LSU-Eunice. The Lady Bengals handed PRCC a 74-65 setback on Nov. 16 at Eunice.
“We’d love to be 7-0 and 1-0 in the division,” said Lady Wildcats coach Scotty Fletcher. “Our defense has played pretty consistently through all of our games, but we’re not shooting the ball as well as we had hoped.”
Pearl River (5-2 overall, 0-1 division) lost in its most recent game, a 53-48 decision to Meridian in which the Lady Wildcats missed 20 of 34 foul shots.
The Lady Wildcats will be put to the test by LSU-E (12-2), which is averaging more than 82 points per game.
Sophomore Rah Franklin (New Orleans, La.) is the leading scorer for PRCC, with 10.7 points per game. Sophomore Tyasia Willis (Camden) leads the Lady Wildcats in rebounding with 7.6 per game.
Saturday’s game will not be livestreamed. The next webcast on prccmedia.com will be Tuesday night, when PRCC hosts Delgado (La.), beginning at 5:30 p.m. Pearl River resumes South Division play next Thursday at Southwest.
