Pearl River Community College opened its 2017 women’s soccer season Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Itawamba at the PRCC Sports Complex.
The Lady Wildcats made their first shot of the game count as sophomore Lacey Polderman (Picayune) took a pass from sophomore Kayla Nobles (Hurley) and found the back of the net at 8:54.
PRCC made it 2-0 at the 29:42 mark when freshman Kayley Fountain (Ocean Springs) scored from point-blank range on a pass from freshman Raine Frazier (Olive Branch). Itawamba got back in the game late in the first half with a goal by Hannah Covington.
After peppering the Lady Indians’ goal with 11 shots, the Lady Wildcats finally broke through at 65:26, when freshman Sarah Havens (Hurley) scored from 25 yards out on a feed from sophomore Caroline Grafe (Kiln).
Pearl River closed out the scoring at 76:18 when sophomore Abbi Henderson converted a free kick from 25 yards away. Sophomore Karsen Gildea (Ocean Springs) had five saves in goal for PRCC.
PRCC will be back in action next Friday, hosting Meridian in the South Division opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be livestreamed on prccmedia.com.
