Lady Wildcats rally to defeat Coastal Alabama-North

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College wasn’t quite as sharp for four quarters as it might have wanted, but the Lady Wildcats were sharp enough when it counted

PRCC used stiff defense in the fourth quarter to get past Coastal Alabama-North 49-45 Saturday afternoon in women’s basketball action at M.R. White Coliseum. Pearl River improved to 10-4 overall; CACC-North dropped to 2-18.

The Lady Wildcats trailed by seven points, 12-5, in the first quarter, then reeled off 16 unanswered points to take a 21-12 lead, as the Lady Eagles missed 19 consecutive shots from the field.

PRCC took a 10-point lead, 26-16, into the locker room at halftime, but Coastal Alabama converted 6 of 13 shots in the third quarter, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range to take a 36-33 lead in the final period.

However, freshman Gabby Brown (Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.) made short work of that deficit with a 3-pointer, and the two teams traded the lead four times and were tied twice more before the Lady Wildcats took the lead for good on a free throw by sophomore Rah Franklin (New Orleans) with 1:49 to play.

Franklin added another trey, her third of the night, with 36 seconds to play to give PRCC its four-point margin of victory. Pearl River held the Lady Eagles scoreless over the final five minutes of play.

Sophomore Charisma Walker (Brandon) continued her strong play for the Lady Wildcats finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Franklin also had 12 points for Pearl River.

The Lady Wildcats will resume South Division play Monday at home against Copiah-Lincoln, before traveling to Meridian next Thursday. The Co-Lin game will be livestreamed on
