POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Lady Wildcats put their new look on display for the first time in front of the home crowd, and it was smashing performance.
PRCC used a 17-0 run in the second quarter to take command and never looked back, rolling past Bishop State 71-37 in women’s basketball exhibition action Tuesday night at M.R. White Coliseum.
“I thought the things that we could control, which were our effort, our attitude, our coachability, we did those things,” said PRCC head coach Scotty Fletcher. “We did a much better job rebounding and blocking out than we did last Friday in two games (at a jamboree at East Central).
“If we can continue to make improvements daily that show up in a game, we have a chance to compete, night-in and night-out.”
Sophomore Shaniqua Magee scored 18 points to lead the Lady Wildcats, and freshman Jada Ivy swished four 3-point shots to finish with 12 points off the bench. Kenadria Evans had 11 points to lead Bishop State.
PRCC held Bishop State to just 12 field goals, and 2 of 11 shooting from 3-point range. The Lady Wildcats also 65 shots in all, to just 46 for Bishop State and were 18 of 23 from the foul line.
Pearl River will open its regular season next Monday at New Orleans against Delgado.
