Pearl River baseball, softball All-Academic squads says NJCAA

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College baseball and softball  copped NJCAA All-Academic Team honors for the 2013 season, while three of those squads’ athletes were tagged with Exemplary Academic Achievement accolades.
            Eleventh-year head coach Leigh White’s softball team achieved the prestigious honor via its overall 3.4 grade-point average, while third-year head baseball coach Josh Hoffpauir saw his squad honored with its 3.1 GPA.
            NJCAA teams with a 3.0 or higher overall GPA receive the honor.
            Cited for Exemplary Academic Achievement were sophomore softball standouts Hillary Dickens of Picayune High and Whitney Waits of Oak Grove High, while baseball standout Krisjon Wilkerson out of St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis was also honored.
            Dickens was a part-time first baseman for the Lady Wildcats the past two seasons and boasted a 3.66 GPA, while Waits was a two-year starter in centerfield with a 3.73 GPA and earned All-Region XXIII honors for the 2013 season.
            Wilkerson was an NJCAA All-American (second team), All-Region XXIII, and All-MACJC (first team) catcher-slugger for the Wildcats in 2013 and sported a 3.68 GPA. He signed a scholarship with the University of Arkansas Razorbacks in the Southeastern Conference.
            NJCAA athletes with a GPA of 3.60-3.79 on all coursework taken earn ‘exemplary’ recognition. GPAs of 3.80 or higher are tagged Academic All-Americans.
