POPLARVILLE – Lightning around the Pearl River Community College campus caused a delay in play, then a heavy rain shower forced a postponement of Tuesday’s MACJC softball doubleheader between PRCC and Jones County at Wildcat Stadium.
Play was stopped after the fourth inning of the first game of the doubleheader Tuesday, and is scheduled to resume at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the top of the fifth inning, and JCJC leading 3-0. The second game will begin 30 minutes after completion of the first game.
The Bobcats scored all of their runs in the top of the first inning, on a two-run home run by Kelly Byrd and a run-scoring single by Rachel Hayes.
After that, however, Wildcat starter Jackie Shows settled down and did not allow a hit through the next three innings.
Hayes, the Bobcat starter, retired all 12 batters she faced through four innings, including four by strikeout.
Jones, ranked fourth in the nation in NJCAA Division II, comes into this week’s play leading the MACJC at 15-1 (26-5 overall). Pearl River is 19-14 and 9-9.
