PRCC splits two in Gulf Shores tournament

POPLARVILLE – Once again, it was good news, bad news for Pearl River Community College in softball Friday.

The bad news was an 11-0 thumping at the hands of Shelton State (Ala.) in the Wildcats’ opening game at the Sun Chief Classic at Gulf Shores, Ala. The good news was a 4-0 win over Chattanooga State (Tenn.) in their second game.

For PRCC (3-3), the first game was about as ugly as it gets, as the Wildcats committed eight errors and managed just two singles. Freshman Rylee Swilley (Kiln) took the loss, dropping her record to 1-2.

In their second game, sophomore Olivia Holley (Biloxi) scattered five hits, and the Wildcats made the most of four hits, scoring twice in the first inning and twice in the third on a two-run home run by sophomore Rylee Dawsey (Picayune).

Holley (2-1) did not have a strikeout, but she also gave up no walks.

Pearl River will complete its weekend with a pair of games Saturday, at 9 a.m. against Trinity Valley (Texas) and at 11:15 a.m. against Snead State (Ala.).
