River sweeps Delta

POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College baseball remains unbeaten, as the Wildcats swept MACJC non-division rival Mississippi Delta 5-3 and 9-1 here Friday.
            PRCC improved to 6-0 overall, while MDCC evened its record to 2-2.
            In the first game, The River jumped out to an early 4-0 lead scoring two runs in both the first and second frames, then added a solo run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Delta scored its only run of the contest in the top of the sixth.
            Starter Jake Brumfield out of Adams Christian Academy in Natchez (2-0) got the win in his six innings on the mound, giving up  three hits, striking out four, and walking three. Trevor Bennett of Hancock County High saw one inning of relief duty, striking out three, while Colton Lee of Pearl River Central High pitched two frames.
            Starter Paul Carpenter (0-1) got the loss in the 1.1 innings of action, giving up eight hits and striking out one, while Nate Dickens saw an inning of relief, walking two. Kyle Wilson relieved three frames, giving up seven hits and walking one, while Drew Pellum pitched two innings and recorded two strikeouts.
            Demarcus Moore and Danny Springs both doubled to lead the Trojans’ six-hit effort, while Michael Beloso (one RBI), Carson Crites, Brandon Cummings, and Tyler Mize all had base hits.
            Kyle Dolan of Forrest County AHS paced the Wildcats’ 16-hit attack with three singles, while Tracy Hadley of Pascagoula High smacked two doubles and a single (one RBI). Kreg Garner of Northwest Rankin High doubled and singled, Lamar Anthony of Pascagoula High, Darien Brown of Hattiesburg High (two RBIs), and Derrick Mount of Harrison Central High (one RBI), all had two base hits apiece, and Jalen Haskin of Oak Grove High (one RBI) and Jacob Taylor of Picayune High (one RBI) both singled.
            Each team committed an error in the game.
            In the second game, it was all Pearl River, as the Wildcats scored on in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the third and sixth frames to take the five-run shutout.
            Starter Luke McGee (2-0), an Ohio State transfer out of Wooster (Oh.) High got the win in his six innings on the mound, giving up three hits, striking out two, and walking three. Allen Cowart of Pascagoula High closed it out in the seventh, giving up two hits.
            Starter Devontae Wilson (0-1) go the loss in his four-and-two-thirds innings of action, giving up five hits, striking out three, and walking five, while Lane Williams relieved for two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit, striking out one, and walking one. Dustin Lingle also pitched two-thirds of a frame.
            Beloso, Jason Berry, Peyton Callahan, Moore, and Springer all had singles for the Trojans, while Nathan Pugh of Starkville High led the Wildcats’ six-hit effort with a double and a single (one RBI). Mount had two base hits, Derek Martin of Poplarville High tripled (two RBIs), and Anthony singled (one RBI). Deanzel Johnson out of Lanier High in Jackson also had an RBI for the Wildcats.
            Pearl River played an error-free game, while Mississippi Delta committed one defensive miscue.
PRCC hits the road for USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn., for Monday and Tuesday action. On Monday, PRCC faces Wabash Valley (Ind.) at 12:30 p.m. before taking on Iowa Lakes (Ia.) at 3 p.m., while on Tuesday, the Wildcats take on Southwest Tennessee at 11 a.m., then Ellsworth (Ia.) at 1:30 p.m.
