River sweeps Hinds

            POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College swept Hinds in MACJC women’s and men’s non-division soccer action here Wednesday with the Lady Wildcats taking a 4-1 double-overtime victory, while the Wildcats shutout the visiting Eagles 6-0.
            Sophomore forward Christina Gentry out of Horn Lake High booted three goals to propel the Lady Wildcats to victory, while sophomore Mike Allizzo of Ocean Springs High had four goals in the men’s win.
            PRCC’s women improved to 7-3 overall, while its men are now 6-3. Hinds’ women dropped to 4-7, while its men are now 3-5.
            In the women’s game, Karly Mitchell of Poplarville High cranked things up for The River with a goal at the 32:40 mark of the first half, while Gentry banged in two scores within a two-and-a-half-minute span --- 23:29 and 21:50 marks --- to put the Lady Wildcats up 3-0.
            Darien Ellison scored the Lady Eagles’ only goal with 4:24 left in the half.
            Gentry scored the game’s final goal with 16:59 left.
            In the men’s game, Allizzo scored the Wildcats’ first goal off a free kick at the 35:57 mark of the first half, while Austin Douglas of Gulfport High added a second score at the 31:59 mark. Two minutes later, Jacob Billingsly out of Sacred Heart High in Hattiesburg padded the Wildcats’ lead to 3-0 before Allizzo closed out the first-half scoring with a goal at the 22:25 mark.
            Allizzo scored the game’s final two goals at the 33:56 and 26:19 marks of the second half.
PRCC returns to action when MACJC non-division foe Northwest Mississippi plays host Friday in Senatobia for 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men) games before South Division rival Jones County visits Wildcat Stadium Tuesday for 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. contests.
