HATTIESBURG – Pearl River Community College opened its 2015 men’s soccer season with a 3-0 exhibition defeat at the hands of William Carey University Saturday at Crusader Field on the WCU campus.
Carey, of the Southern States Athletic Conference, scored one goal in the first half, then two more in the second as they also saw the Crusaders’ first action of the year.
Despite the defeat, Wildcat coach Paul Martin was pleased with his team as it prepares to defend its MACJC state championship from 2014.
POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College has been king of the hill in MACJC men’s soccer for the past three seasons, and head coach Paul Martin thinks the Wildcats have the tools to stay on top.
“We’ve got a talented group, a large team,” said Martin, now entering his fifth season at PRCC. “We don’t have a lot of superstars, but we’ve got a great group of talented young men that we feel good about.”
Last season, the Wildcats won their third consecutive state championship, and fourth straight South Division title, finishing 12-5-1 overall.
POPLARVILLE --- The Pearl River Community College Soccer Camp for high school boys is set for June 25-27 (Thursday through Saturday) here on the PRCC campus.
Wildcat head coach Paul Martin, who guided his squad to a three-straight MACJC-Region 23 championship this past fall, said and impressive staff of coaches from William Carey University and Spring Hill College, as well as other professionally licensed personnel will be on hand to work with players to advance their basic ball skills.
POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College’s MACJC-Region 23 women’s and men’s championship squads enter district play this weekend with hopes of capturing a berth in their respective NJCAA National Tournaments set for Nov. 17-22 (Monday through Saturday).
PRCC’s men’s squad (12-4-1) travels to Mt. Pleasant, Tex., Friday to play for the South District title against host Northeast Texas CC (17-2-1) at 2 p.m., while its women (12-4-1) travels to Melbourne, Fla., to tackle host East Florida State CC (11-1-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday for the District H championship.
ELLISVILLE --- Pearl River’s Wildcat and Lady Wildcat soccer squads are the 2014 MACJC-Region 23 champions after defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast and Hinds, respectively, here Sunday in the women’s and men’s title bouts played at Jones Junior College.
The two teams duplicated the twin champ feat during the 2012 season, while the Wildcat squad have claimed the men’s title for three straight years.
PRCC’s women improved to 12-4-1 overall, while its men are now 11-4-1. Hinds’ women dropped to 12-5-2, while Gulf Coast’s men fell to 15-5-1.
POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College swept Copiah-Lincoln in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Friday with the Lady Wildcats shutting out the Lady Wolfpack 4-0, while the Wildcats were 3-1 victors.
PRCC’s women improved to 8-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in division play, while its men improved to 8-4-1 and 7-2. CLCC’s women dropped to 0-15 and 0-8, while its men are now 2-12-1 and 0-8.
MERIDIAN --- Pearl River Community College split in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Wednesday with the Lady Wildcats falling to the host Meridian 2-1, while the Wildcats took a 4-1 victory.
PRCC’s women dropped to 7-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in division play, while its men improved to 7-4-1 and 6-2. MCC’s women improved to 3-9-1 and 4-5-1, while its men are now 5-10-1 and 4-5-1.
POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College split with Southwest Mississippi in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Friday with the Lady Wildcats pounding the visiting Lady Bears with a convincing 6-0 shutout and the Wildcats falling 1-0.
PRCC’s women improved to 7-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in division play, while its men fell to 6-4-1 and 5-2. SMCC’s women are now 3-11 and 2-5, while its men are 3-9-1 and 3-3-1.
PERKINSTON --- Pearl River Community College’s Lady Wildcats battled to a 1-1 stalemate with home-standing archrival Mississippi Gulf Coast, while the Wildcat squad fell 2-1 in double overtime to the Bulldogs in women’s and men’s MACJC South Division soccer action here Tuesday.
PRCC’s women are now 6-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in division play, while MGCCC’s women are 2-9-1 and 2-5-1 and its men 7-1-1 and 8-3.
POPLARVILLE --- Reiging MACJC-Region 23 men’s champion Pearl River fell 3-2 in its season opener here Sunday when Spring Hill (Ala.) rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the final five minutes to take a 3-2 victory.
The host Wildcats dropped to 0-1, while the visiting Badgers are now 1-0 on the season.
PRCC standouts Paul Millette, Jr., of Pascagoula High and Jake Polderman of Picayune High scored goal in the first half to give the Wildcats at 2-1 cushion over the four-year senior college at the intermission.
