Lady Wildcats sweep Northeast in conference doubleheader

POPLARVILLE – A bizarre finish in the second game of the doubleheader gave Pearl River’s softball team a much-needed sweep of the MACJC twinbill Monday at Wildcat Field.
 
The Lady Wildcats rapped out 14 hits and took advantage of four Tiger errors to win the opener 9-4, then scored two run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 2-1 decision in the nightcap.
 
In getting their first doubleheader sweep of the season in conference play, PRCC improved to 15-8 overall and 5-3 in league play. Northeast dropped to 9-12 and 3-5.
 

Lady Wildcats split conference doubleheader against Northwest

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team split an MACJC doubleheader Saturday against Northwest Mississippi Saturday at Wildcat Field.

The Lady Wildcats took the opener 5-2 behind Skyler Cook’s one-hitter, but dropped the second game 7-5, as their seventh-inning rally fell short.

PRCC finished the day 12-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Northwest is 9-3 and 3-1.

PRCC softball opens MACJC action with doubleheader split at Gulf Coast

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team opened MACJC play Tuesday afternoon by splitting a doubleheader against Mississippi Gulf Coast at Perkinston.

The Lady Wildcats lost the opener 9-0 in five innings, but came back in the nightcap to win 5-3, handing the sixth-ranked Lady Bulldogs their first defeat of the season.

PRCC softball splits with Alabama Southern

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team rebounded after a disappointing loss in the opening game of a Sunday doubleheader to earn a split of the two games against Alabama Southern at Wildcat Field.

Alabama Southern surprised the Lady Wildcats with an 8-6 victory in the opener, but PRCC came back to win the nightcap 3-2.

Pearl River is 10-5 overall; Alabama Southern is 3-19.

PRCC softball earns doubleheader sweep from Faulkner State

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team did it the easy way and the hard way in sweeping a doubleheader from Faulkner State (Ala.) Thursday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

The Lady Wildcats took the opener the easy way, rolling to a 10-1 victory in five innings, then completed the sweep the hard way in the nightcap, knocking off the Sun Chiefs 7-6 in eight innings.

PRCC improved to 9-4 overall; Faulkner State dropped to 10-10.

Lady Wildcats drop two of three in Sun Chief Classic at Gulf Shores

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College won its first game Saturday at the Sun Chief Classic at Gulf Shores, Ala., but dropped its final two games to finish 3-2 for the two-day tournament.
 
The Lady Wildcats defeated Southern-Union (Ala.) 12-3 in their first game, but fell to Wallace-Hanceville (Ala.) 6-2 and Faulkner State (Ala.) 10-1.
 
Against Southern-Union, PRCC smacked 13 hits, led by Mary Grace Key and Rachel Brockhaus. Key drove in six runs on a pair of singles, and Brockhaus had three RBIs on a home run and a single.
 

PRCC softball drops 8-5 loss to East Mississippi at Wildcat Invitational

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College couldn’t climb out of an early hole Saturday afternoon and lost its first game of the day at the Wildcat Invitational, 8-5 to East Mississippi.

PRCC was to play Baton Rouge (La.) in the late game of the tournament.

The Lady Lions (3-1) jumped on PRCC starter Madison Scoggin (1-1) for three runs in the top of the first inning, all three coming in on a home run by Averi Pender. EMCC added a run in the second, then built a 7-0 lead off reliever Amanda Ingram with three runs in the third.

PRCC softball splits two games at Wildcat Invitational

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College made the most of eight hits, building a big lead, then hanging on to defeat Calhoun (Ala.) 7-5 Friday night in the final game of the first night’s action at the Wildcat Invitational at Wildcat Field.

The victory allowed the Lady Wildcats to earn a split of their two games after dropping a 9-0 decision against LSU-Eunice earlier in the day.

PRCC softball opens 2016 season with sweep at Alabama Southern

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College opened its 2016 softball season on a successful note Monday, sweeping a doubleheader against Alabama Southern at Monroeville, Ala.

The Lady Wildcats rolled in the opener, 10-2, then pulled away late to take the nightcap 10-5.

In the opener, sophomore Branda Northrop had four singles, and sophomore Briana Leonard drove in three runs with a double and a single. PRCC had a 6-0 lead after three innings and coasted to the win.
