Lady Wildcats split twinbill at Meridian

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team was forced to settle for a split of an MACJC doubleheader Friday afternoon at Meridian.
The Wildcats rallied from an early 6-0 deficit in the opener with a big inning of their own to win 8-6, but allowed the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 4-3 defeat in the nightcap.
PRCC is still in the playoff hunt at 11-13 in conference play (21-18 overall); Meridian is out of playoff contention at 11-25 and 8-14.

PRCC softball drops conference doubleheader at Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College softball had a tough day in the pitcher’s circle Tuesday afternoon, as the Wildcats dropped both games of an MACJC doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln at Wesson.

The Wolves pounded the Wildcats 10-2 in the opener, then completed the sweep with an 8-5 win in the nightcap.

PRCC dropped to ninth place in the MACJC standings at 20-17 overall and 10-12 in conference, and must make up some ground to get back into playoff consideration. Co-Lin moved into the No. 4 spot in the standings at 26-8 and 17-5.

PRCC splits softball doubleheader against Jones County

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College overcame a loss in the opening game of an MACJC doubleheader to defeat sixth-ranked Jones County in spectacular fashion in the nightcap.

The opening game had been postponed from last Tuesday because of stormy weather with JCJC leading 3-0 after four innings. After the game was resumed on Sunday, the Bobcats went on to win it 6-1, but the Wildcats roared back to win the second game 11-2 in 4-1/2 innings.

PRCC softball doubleheader against Jones postponed after rainstorm

POPLARVILLE – Lightning around the Pearl River Community College campus caused a delay in play, then a heavy rain shower forced a postponement of Tuesday’s MACJC softball doubleheader between PRCC and Jones County at Wildcat Stadium.

Play was stopped after the fourth inning of the first game of the doubleheader Tuesday, and is scheduled to resume at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the top of the fifth inning, and JCJC leading 3-0. The second game will begin 30 minutes after completion of the first game.

PRCC moves baseball, softball games up to Tuesday due to weather forecast

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College has moved its MACJC baseball and softball doubleheaders at Wildcat Stadium up a day, from Wednesday to Tuesday, because of expected rainy weather in the Pine Belt the middle of this week.

The Wildcat baseball team will host Southwest Mississippi in a 4 p.m. doubleheader, while the PRCC softball team will host fourth-ranked Jones County in a doubleheader, also scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.

PRCC softball pounds out 35 runs in doubleheader sweep of Coahoma

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team scored early and often against winless Coahoma Wednesday in an MACJC doubleheader at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats swept the twinbill with five-inning wins of 20-1 and 15-2 to improve to 19-12 overall and 9-7 in conference play. Coahoma dropped to 0-22 and 0-14.

PRCC sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring nine runs on five hits, three walks, two hit batters and two errors. Katie Davis had a two-run double for one of the big hits in the inning.

PRCC softball gets back on track with doubleheader sweep over Hinds

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College softball team got its offense back in gear in a big way, snapping a four-game losing streak by sweeping an MACJC doubleheader against Hinds Tuesday at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats rolled to a 9-1 win in the opener in five innings, then defeated the Eagles 10-2 in the nightcap in six innings.

PRCC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener on Kristen Martin’s RBI double, but Hinds tied it up in the top of the fourth on Di’Mon Brown’s leadoff home run.

Southwest sweeps Lady Wildcats in MACJC twinbill

POPLARVILLE – An anemic offense plagued the Pearl River Community College softball team Wednesday afternoon, as the Lady Wildcats dropped both games of an MACJC doubleheader to Southwest at McComb.
PRCC could not take advantage of seven hits and three errors by the Lady Bears in losing the opener 2-1, and could only muster one hit in a 1-0, eight-inning loss in the nightcap.
The Lady Wildcats (15-10 overall, 5-5 in conference) scored their only run of the day in the top of the third inning on Kristin Martin’s run-scoring double.

Lady Wildcats sweep Northeast in conference doubleheader

POPLARVILLE – A bizarre finish in the second game of the doubleheader gave Pearl River’s softball team a much-needed sweep of the MACJC twinbill Monday at Wildcat Field.

The Lady Wildcats rapped out 14 hits and took advantage of four Tiger errors to win the opener 9-4, then scored two run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 2-1 decision in the nightcap.

In getting their first doubleheader sweep of the season in conference play, PRCC improved to 15-8 overall and 5-3 in league play. Northeast dropped to 9-12 and 3-5.
