SW Tennessee, Mineral Area sweeps River in Friday action

POPLARVILLE --- Pearl River Community College dropped two straight home baseball games here Friday in Wildcat Stadium, falling to the Southwest Tennessee Saluquis 6-2 before falling to the Mineral Area Cardinals (Mo.) 11-2.
The Cards grabbed a 6-3 victory over the Saluquis prior to Mineral Area defeating the host Wildcats in Friday’s nightcap game.
Following the sweep, PRCC evened its overall record to 4-4.
Against Southwest Tennessee went up 2-0 with solo runs in the top of the second and third innings. In the second, Cade Smith and Kyle Bynum drew back-to-back one-out walks with Smith scoring off Mason Castile’s base hit a strikeout later. Logan Meadows followed with a base on balls to load the corners, but Wildcat starter Zachary Boone of Columbia High retired Miguel Egea for the final out.
In the third, Michael Ince led off with a single, while Dylan Moore reached on a base hit an out later. After Smith walked to load the bases, Bynum followed with an RBI sacrifice before Boone K’d Colton Wright for the final out.
After a scoreless fourth, The River tied it up in the bottom of the fifth when Jordan Mullis of Baldwin (Fla.) The sixth was scoreless, but the Saluquis took the lead for good in the seventh when Boone gave up a lead off, up-the-middle single to Egea, which prompted his mound exit for southpaw Trey Grice of Forrest County AHS. After retiring Ince, Vince Hoyt followed with an RBI double and moved to third off a muffed pitch before Moore walked, stole second, and Hoyt scored off Bynum’s single. Grice struck out Wright for the final out.
Southwest Tennessee added a solo run in the eighth when Logan Meadows outran a one-out bunt for a base hit, stole second, and scored off Egea’s single to make it 5-1 before Grice K’d Hoyt for the final out. The Saluquis scored the game’s final run in the night when lead off Moore singled to left, moved to second off Smith sacrifice bunt, and scored off Wright’s base hit an out later. Bynum then belted a double to left, but courtesy runner Gerald Collazo was nailed at home for the final out.
